3650 Miles in the Hurtlocker

    Nice -

    I have almost 25 more weeks for my goal race Ice Age 50 Mile.  They added another 50 spots (550) which is a lot for the out and back sections on single track.  It also can make for bad decisions to go out too hard as it is almost impossible to pass on some sections of trail.  My goal is to beat a friend that is in the 50-54 age group whom I never have beaten.  He is always in good shape and he lives near the trails the race in on.

    I am still a maybe for Carmel ~

    last week of training

    * 66.1 Miles

    * 11,130 Treadmill vertical

    * 3x1 Mile at 7.8MPH (Yes it is true and embarrassing)

    * 8x1 Minute at 8.7 MPH ~ Ditto

    * 2 weight / plyo sessions

    * 2 volleyball / walleyball ~ 45 minutes each

    *  Beer Saturday (96 / 48 ounces miller lite)

    *  Nutrition good Mon-Fri ...

    **  My right knee is still angry

    THis week - Less vertical and some outside vertical - 20@T / 10x1 Minute and a long run of at least 14 miles are on tap.  I am not that concerned about miles right now ... anything 40-70 is great.

    It won't fill out plus I'm good buds with the RD so a spot will always be open.

    I agree on the patient training. Last year taught me that.

    And yes I'm getting to be that crotchety old man. So turn down that music and get off my lawn.

    First workout of the training cycle in the books today.

    Time to drop the weight.

    Long dead ... But my stench lingers !

      I saw that for Ice Age.

      I am very tempted to register

        10 spots left ... get in there it is a great 50 miler and a blast afterward.  I would even stick around Saturday night and we can give er like we were young.

              To have any interest in running - I am trying (limited success) to start over for tracking PR & PB.  Since I have decided to do that I have run one really crappy 5 miler.

              In theory if I were to train really hard and get my weight down < 180 pounds .. I would run lifetime PRs ... I set all my PRs > 200#.

              But there are 2 problems with that statement

              1)  Train really hard

              2) < 180 pounds

              The 1st has not happened since 2012 and the 2nd ... I have not been < 180 pounds since I was 19.

              At least it will give me something to focus on and new goals to meet.  I am going to try and run a handful of 5 milers in 2018 to see what progress I can make.

                This racing thing seems to always come down to weight. Crap we're worse than wrestlers.

                  Only we do not get DQ'd for fat.

                  To run a good time I need

                  1/2 weight

                  1/2 consistent training

                  1/2 good diet and nutrition

                  Holidays have not been good - pants are a bit tighter.

                    Feeling the growl again

                      Yup yup.  I'm thinking something extreme and Hurtlocker-worthy is in order.

                        Not 1/2 but 50% (1 half)

                        But I will start on 1/2 also.
