    Barking Mad To Run

Long night last night, both disappointing and enjoyable.  Gail and I attended the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA, team name RoadRunners) football game last night.  We started at the pre-game Alumni Association party...for members, free beer, wine, soda, or water, and a plate of food - kiolbassa sausage, potato salad, beans (I passed on the beans), accompanied by live music, raffle for prizes, and various games to play (bean-bag toss, golf putt, etc).  Nice atmosphere to begin.   Then into the stadium for the game.

UTSA played U. of Arizona Wildcats, a team that has had a program since 1899, and is a very talented team, ranked 41 by USA and 43 by CBS Sports.  I kinda thought we'd pretty much get blown away - and that seemed to be the case when Arizona scored a touchdown in the first 18 seconds of the game, with a run-back on their very first play.  But our "Runners", bless 'em, hung in there and we even had the lead at one point.  The game went right down to the last seconds, 26 - 23, Arizona, and we were driving, when our quarterback made a mistake and Arizona intercepted to put the game away.  Disappointing for we "Runners' fans - we almost had another big upset for 2nd week in a row, after beating Houston last week - but also a proud moment for us too.    The fans let the team know how we felt too - we knew we'd lost but, proud that our team had done so well against such a talented opponent, lots of fans stood after the clock hit zeroes and chanted UTSA! UTSA! UTSA!"   Quite an emotional moment.  Final score 26 - 23.  Most of the sports stories reported that Arizona "escaped" with a victory over - as one sports analyst I heard on TV later put it - "tiny little UTSA - looks like they're for real."  Not bad for a football program that is only in its 4th year.

Gail and I got home near midnight.  My boss kindly gave me the day off today, so I slept in a little, and then went to Lackland Air Force Base and put in 3.2 miles.  I did my run/walk about 9:30 a.m.  Kind of late for a Texas morning run, temp was already in the low 80s, and since storms were threatening, the humidity was already in the 80 percentile and the dew-point in the upper 70s.  I was drenched in sweat by the time I finished and took a nice, refreshing COLD shower post-run.   Now I'm just enjoying the rest of my day off, playing on the computer, watching TV, and napping off-and-on in my chair. It's quite nice, actually, just having a 'lazy day.

        Barking Mad To Run

We had a 'cool break' for about a day, FreeSoul, but now this heat and humidity is back for us.  About 15 minutes ago, it did rain pretty hard here for about 10 minutes only and then stopped.  Didn't cool down a damn thing, all it did was make it now feel like I'm standing inside a greenhouse...very steamy, gaaack.  Glad you and Rocky got your miles in, sorry about the stomach pains...

Safe travel to Maine, Baboon, and good luck to DW!

No pilates today, Damaris?  I am in shock!

Good luck with the half tomorrow, Dave!  Hope the weather cooperates for you.

Wow, Zelanie, Oregon has 90s?  Who knew.  Happy run tonite and hope the new shoes work great for you.  I will buy a pair of Saucony again when the company brings back the Trigon...which they replaced with the Triumph.....hello, stupid Saucony company...it's NOT the same shoe, no matter how much you swear it is!  Idiots.

YOU'RE going nuts, Jack?  I bet your family was hoping daily you'd start running again.    I know when I have to take time off, I tend to drive Gail a bit crazy - kind of like I have 'cabin fever', lol - and she is always SO happy when I can run again, lol.

Well, you may not have liked it, Sly, but at your speedy pace at least you won't have to not like it for very long. Way to get it done!  Yeah, I was wondering about Basya too.

Gee, LRB, it's hot as hell, and you want an even more "crispier" run?  Umm, just how 'crispy' do you want to be...looks to me like you're already pretty well done!     Congrats on the mileage!  I am up to a whopping 551 miles...for the YEAR.   Do I get some kind of prize for having the LEAST amount of miles run?

Always glad to see your posts, Marjorie.  You are always so consistent...makes me feel that as you keep reporting thus, the world will not end...

Happy 6, B-Plus!  Must be nice to run in the PM, I miss it.   Not hot where you are?

D2, you are about as consistent as Marjorie is!  Way to go!

Is Florida still a state?  I thought it was now a province of Cuba or some South American country....

Hi Scotty, it's supposed to get close to 80 this afternoon, but we've been enjoying some nice pre-fall temps the last few days.

Damaris, you have temps in the 80's, don't you?  In Celsius, right?

Was a slacker today. Was supposed to do a 4.5 easy in the heat and humidity, and ended up having a pint and a pizza instead, on a terrace. Was hot and humid still but I didn't sweat as much

Well after walking around in these new shoes for about an hour I realize I don't like them, it's weird how you can immediately tell when a pair of shoes don't fit you right so I put on one of my Asics GT 2000 2's and immediately noticed the difference. These new shoes are going back unfortunately, I'll exchange for the color of the 2000 2's I don't currently have.
