Super B****
You are not alone, and it's weird how that is. In my experience, people who bowl competitively readily call themselves bowlers. Those who swim are swimmers and golfers golf (although the term scratch golfer indicates a "higher" skill level). Only in running does it seem a quandary exists about who or what a runner is.
Nope. I have the same issue with calling myself a diver.
chasing the impossible
because i never shut up ... i blog
Do I have to fix my post, or are you the only one here? FFS.
No, we all have identity crises here. It's all good
If someone called me an athlete I would sue them for slander. Jogger is a much better description because it more accurately describes what I'm doing during races, FFS.

My non-running friends tease me by using the j word.

That only proves that any clown can BQ if she is stubborn enough.
race obsessed
Pffft 18 for 18 isn't shabby.

I better be an athlete...that's my excuse for wearing spandex!
Runners run
I've won money for out running people in a race, so technically I'm not only an athlete, I'm a professional athlete. No way I was turning down $75 in cash to retain my amateur standing. Like many other professional athletes, I spent the money on booze and women and wasted the rest. All in one night, too.
Life in the fast lane... must be nice. You've got me daydreaming now...
From the Internet.
Maybe it's my history in sports where the competitors aren't always treated as if what they do is a sport (various disciplines of horseback riding - yes, of course the horse does a lot of work too, no, telling a 1200-lb animal what to do is not easy and it requires muscles, brains, and finesse!), but I would absolutely consider myself an athlete. I'm not super talented or very fast, but I take training seriously and strive to be a student of the sport. That's enough to be considered an athlete to me.
I didn't think of it that way until within a month of each other, both my husband and my doctor referred to me that way, in the context of talking about how an athlete needs to treat his/her body. We ask our bodies to perform the tasks of an athlete.
20,000 miles behind me, the world still to see.
Nope

Team TJ
At one point I was beginning to consider myself rather athletic, not so much these days. Trying to get back to that point is a definite uphill climb...
Running for TJ because he can't.
