Damaris, hope your head feels better.

I'm back to work today after 12 days off, so HopesMom, I feel ya.

SRD today after my 10K yesterday. I'm going to take a few days off to let my knees and shin rest, and call to get a sports medicine appointment. No biggie, just being proactive for once.

4 easy miles with DW done along the Colorado River! The best part, no PF pain!! I will still take it easy and not rush back into it.

Also, DW and I signed up for a May marathon (I forgot if I mentioned that).  Smile

      Dad on the run.

Hey Penguins! It's a new year and I'm going to try and really buckle down and focus on my running and being consistent! Also going to try and take the dogs with me a lot more when I go run, they really enjoy it and the youngest desperately needs the extra energy burn!

On a more HOLY SHIT! note I stepped on the scales today... that wasn't a pretty site and really threw me for a loop, I know I have gained some weight over the holidays but 30lbs wasn't what I was expecting Sad Oh well, time to hit the ol' grinding wheel and get it back off.

Danny, that's bullshit.  I was once told I was overpaid, basically because the salary for an account in PR is less than $20K and I was being paid $25K.  One wanted me run the full accounting for a company for $1400/month.  Eh, no.

As to that bullshit question, I assume is that people do not do their homework and google interview questions and ask those.  One time, I was interviewed with a big law firm and the guy was reading from a fucking Powerpoint question presentation.  Da fuck?  The interview for this job was really nice.  It made me feel I was at a cocktail party getting to know my possible CEO, very informal, unfortunately, with no alcohol. Just kidding there.

Breezy, 60* and sunny-- what a beautiful day for a run!  6-1/2 miles run.

D - sorry about the migraine.  Do you stay home when you get them, or just live with it at work?

PAD - enjoy the yoga and TM.

Stonefence - looks like our snowstorm is going to be less than forecast, but the cold is still coming (17 tomorrow, 11 on Tuesday for a high!)

LewJeffrey -   Good luck with the interviewing.  I've done that, and it's harder than I expected.  Good job doing the 6.5, despite a late start.

HM - welcome back.  Walking is a good start to rehabbing the knee.  I know, in my case, my knees hurt worse when I don't move than when I do.

Margo - hope the yoga went well.  Have fun at the gym tonight.

Tracilynn - did your shins act up yesterday?  I hope you get in at the gym.  We have so many gyms around here, I doubt any of them is that crowded, even in January.

SO42 - doing a time trial isn't quite the same as a race, but it would be good practice running at race pace.

Bin - sounds like a good dinner, especially the guava juice.  Good job on the 10.5.

Dan - your reentry into running seems to be going well.  Enjoy your rest day.  (Though since you're back at work after a long break, it probably doesn't feel very restful.)  My husband had a similar experience, where the potential employer told him he wasn't worth what he had been paid.  OTOH, another interviewer basically said, "How do you manage to live on that low a salary?"

Obiebyke - are your shins and knees hurting?  Enjoy your rest.

Jack - I hope you're enjoying Laughlin . We camped there once, next to the river, but never made it to the casinos.  We did see some petroglyphs though.

Jimmy - you know what you need to do to get the weight off.  I'm in the same case, after a long road trip followed by the holidays.  Seeing the scale was something of a shock.  Unfortunately, running doesn't seem to help me lose weight.  The more I run, the hungrier I am, and the more I eat.  So now I need to be much more careful about what I eat, since obviously I'm not matching input with output.

              obiebyke

Yeah, I've been battling some runners knee in both knees and shin splints in my left shin for a bit. Today my left shin and knee are talking to me. Worth getting checked out and maybe getting some PT to strengthen the parts that need strengthening, especially since I have hypermobile knees.

When I was interviewing candidates for my tech's position, I wasn't allowed to do homework or get to know them.  I had to create a list of questions when I created the position, and I had to submit them to HR for approval.  Then I had to stick completely to the list, no chasing rabbits, and I had to take notes on their answers and submit them to HR as well.  Just saying, it might be restrictions on the interviewers, not laziness!

When it's all said and done, no one remembers how far we have run.  The only thing that matters is how we have loved.

                  Dad on the run.

Ginny - I have to count my calories, otherwise I would overeat everytime I ran as well.

Docket - Thanks for kicking us off.  Good to see that you're enjoying the cool climates more often :-)  Sorry about the migraine though.

PAD - These cold temperatures stink.  We're going to be consistently below zero this weekend.  I'm going to be on the treadmill a LOT.

Stone - You and me both with the constant snow and then cold temps.  It's a bit much, but at least it isn't soupy out there.

lew - I've been asked some crazy stuff, but I had a guy ask me what the hell I had been doing for the last 2 1/2 years.  I don't know where he got my resume, but they called me when I was working for another company.  I told him that I had been working, and he wanted to know why it wasn't on my resume.  I said, "You called me.  I never sent you a resume.  If you want an updated one, just ask.".  I work for that company today, and he doesn't.

HsM - I wish I had just taken a vacation.  This 2 days of work here, and one day of work there is driving me nuts.  It doesn't work.  My job depends on me meeting with other people.  If they aren't at work, or are just trying to skate through the day....yeah.

Phillie - Maybe I should try yoga again.  I say that a lot, and sometimes I actually try it.  I'm still not a yoga person.

Traci - You're tough.  Shins, illness...still working out.

StartingOver - HM and then triathlons...that sounds like a fun year.  I don't have a dog in the Sugar Bowl fight, but I'm hoping to be entertained.

Bin -  Good miles buddy.  I haven't gone a double digit distance in a while.  This weather is going to kill me.  9 miles has been about my ceiling since November.

Dan - Ain't nobody going to talk me into a pay cut...lol

The reason I was looking for another job was because the company I was working for got bought out. He thought he could give me a lowball offer ,and I would be desperate to take it. He didn't know that I had two other companies interested in hiring me at the same time. I went to company B and told them I had an offer on the table. The next day company B made me a much better offer which was a very small raise from my prior job. They also gave me an extra week of PTO my first year.

obie - 10K yesterday?  Is there an RR?

Jack - Back on the marathon war path already?  You rock.

Jblack - I put on a bit over the holidays too.  Luckily, I got rid of all of my fat clothes.  So, I can't put on too much.  I escaped with about 10 pounds gained, which for me is less than a 5% gain.  I'm confident that it will come off quickly now that the pies, fudge, chocolate, candies, gravy, cakes, cookies, etc are all out of the house.  Also, I can start getting my miles back up.  Hooray!

She Can - I'll trade you weather for a couple of weeks!

AFM - I ran my first race of the year yesterday.  I knew going in that I was kind of heavy, and not in the best shape of my life.  I've been running.  Don't get me wrong, but a 30 mile week has been a good week for me lately as opposed to 60.  I've been eating garbage.  Then, there was the forecast.  It was snowing and about 12 degrees.  So, I had a bunch of extra clothes on, and absolutely no traction.  I was slipping and sliding like crazy, but there weren't many people in front of me.  So, I kept pushing in hopes of getting a win.  I don't know the total, but I know 138 were pre-registered.  I finished 13th overall, and 2nd in my age group.  My watch said 3.11 miles in 24:36.  The clock was almost 30 seconds slower.  I can't explain that.  Either way, I was about a full minute off of my PR, but I'm assuming that everybody else was slow too.  The overall winner was wearing his heavily decorated cross country letter jacket, and he ran a 22 something.  I'm betting that he wasn't hungover either like I was.  Even with my weight up, and my mileage down, I think on a dry surface where I could dress like a runner and show up well rested I think I could run a decent time right now.  We'll see.

I think in this case it was laziness.  There were other indications he was not prepared.

Knowing how lawfirms work, I suspect he was asked to interview me five minutes before I came in.

To me, if you ask these prepared questions, don't be surprised if the person turns not to be a good match. You will not get his true personality with those questions.
