First Marathon (Read 734 times)

I plan to run my first marathon in January and I put together the schedule below. I know it's unlikely, but I want to BQ in my debut. Please provide feedback. I should have a base of 50 miles/week by the time I start. Peaking at 70 seems scary now so I'll go by feel as each week goes by. MP = Marathon Pace (7:25/mile)

Just curious where you got your program or if you made it up. Anyway it looks like basic bread and butter marathon training. If it was me I'd add a super-easy 3 - 4 on the day you do weights, I think your legs will feel better for it.

It's Pete Pfitzinger plan. I use to run 3 days a week and worked my way up to 6 day.  I may get up to 7 days per week someday

Ah, I wondered. I'll be using Daniels this Fall (vs my usual "Just Run As Much As Possible") and it looked sorta familiar. I guess Pfitz vs. Daniels is not really all that different. Looks like you'll be doing more strides and 5K pace runs, while I'll be doing more tempo and MP runs. It's all good.

Congrats on going from 3 to 6!

Yeah...It's like Daniels. The main difference I see is the interval done early in the Daniels plan I was going to use and finishes with the tempos. Pfitz is reversed. I have a few MP runs and I now scheduled 3 tune-up races (1/2, 25K & 30K).
