    Mornin' everyone.

    Yesterday's excellent workouts & races:

Tramps (rail-trail half marathon in good weather, and with negative splits for 1:45 finish in first race in 10 months)

Holly (6.6 miles in 45F temps)

Rochrunner (7 miles - longest run since Oct.)

C-R (back from Vegas and 10 feelin' good miles with the club)

Jlynne (just under 6 miles in weather too nice to ignore, with 'Chester' walking breaks for the foot)

Dave (4.24 early morning miles after a good night's sleep)

Evanflein (5.3 miles on the elliptical with rest breaks)

Enke (just walking the dog before taking DD to the cat cafe)

Mike (8 miles on a busy day)

Tammy (5K race plus extra mileage to get to a total of 10)

BerthaSlayer (8K trail race in record-breaking temps in 1:05, followed by 6 hours of tailgating)

Stumpy (3.1 miles around the lake in sun and 38F temps)

Spacityrunner (6.3 overcast, warm, humid miles with hillage and ahead of target pace)

Mariposai (11 miles of X-country skiing with friends in less-than-great conditions)

Holly, looking at diet changes could be a positive approach for your DD. Friends of ours, years ago, had problems with a couple of overactive sons until they calmed their diet down, which helped to calm the guys down.

It seems there is a lot of mild weather out there, so good for you all who are able to and are taking advantage of it. Remember that winter isn't over yet...

We still have some party prep to do, but it shouldn't be too bad. I have to make 'salad-on-a-stick' and guac, and we have to get out all the wine and beer and soda glasses, and start putting the food out a little later. The party starts at 2:57, and we'll be ready.

6.4 easy miles in 39F temps this morning. The body is pretty cranky, but I wanted to get out and enjoy our mild weather, and I've learned that a decent workout can help to work some of the kinks out and get my body back into reasonable alignment.

    Have a greta Sunday!

    Jay

Without ice cream there would be darkness and chaos.

    C-R

Nice recap and workout Jay. I find a workout can help get the joints feeling better.

I ran a little over 5 trail miles with a friend I'm trying to get back into running consistently. It was slow but what we both needed and some great conversation. Saw a couple of beautiful owls too. Bonus.

Kiddo ran ran first indoor meet yesterday. 10;31 for the 3200 and he was ill. He thinks he can break 10 this spring. Yikes.

      Have a super Sunday all

      Tramps

Now making chicken stock from chicken carcasses I've had on the deck for a few weeks.

Intellectually, I know this is fine; they're frozen.  But viscerally, this totally grossed me out. Bleh!

Dave--I grew up watching lots of hockey during the "French Connection" era.  Glory days for you guys.

Holly--great idea on starting with diet modification.  All that hidden sugar adds up.

C-R--I've never heard anyone say much good about Las Vegas, but I guess the hotel rooms are so cheap companies can't resist.

Starr--I looked on YouTube for that video of Matt Lauer and Ribs on the Today Show.  No luck yet.

        Enke--hope you're feeling better.

        Mari--nice long run yesterday!

        Good racing yesterday, Tammy, Lori

        Who's racing today?  Twocat?  others?

Does the intrepid racers thread still exist around here?

Glad some of you enjoyed the RR.  A little scary that it's mostly cut-and-paste. If I were writing it today, I'd add a line about the terrible events in Sweden. Sigh.

Crazy-warm mid-60s this morning.  I was literally sweating for a short recovery 3-miler. I kept thinking of Holly and Erika running a marathon in Pheonix.  I would die.

EZ kick-back day planned, maybe catch the Caps on TV.

        Be safe. Be kind.

          Jay - Enjoy the party!

C-R - that is one speedy kiddo.

Tramps - I fully expect the heat and dry air to take a toll, especially coming from winter with no time to acclimate, but my only goal is to finish, not worried about doing particularly well.  So, I will stop at every water stop along the way, and enjoy the scenery.

It was 45 degrees during my run today (oddly the temp held steady the entire time I was out there) but the wind and the misty-almost-drizzle made it feel much colder, so while I wore shorts, I was glad of the two LS tech shirts.

          12 miles total

Life is a headlong rush into the unknown. We can hunker down and hope nothing hits us or we can stand tall, lean into the wind and say, "Bring it on, darlin', and don't be stingy with the jalapenos."

          Dave59

I wasn't planning to run but I was awake, had done a short core workout, and I knew I would be standing around church for a few hours, so I put on my running shoes and zipped off 1.12 miles.  (We had the coffee duty at church today so it means going in early and staying late.)

            Henrun

Beautiful warm day in Brooklyn. I ran 3 over the Brooklyn Bridge which is one of my favorite runs. The weather and the holiday weekend brought the hordes and I had to dodge walkers and cyclists but Iwas happy to do it.

We're here for the weekend to keep my BIL company because he's undergoing some medical procedures forcing him to miss a family ski trip to Taos. At least the weather is warmer here. Marj went for a long walk in Manhattan with her DS and GD who stopped here for a couple of days on their way to Washington to spend the holiday week touring the capital.

13 speedy for me miles in ideal running weather. This spring weather in February is a tease but I'm loving it.

Here's a fun one of me during yesterday's race. As you can tell I'm swearing profusely. But it was fun. And I'm actually ahead of someone. He passed me but there were at least 6 others behind me.

Great picture, Lori! You're a better person than I. I'd find a way around the water, if at all possible.

Jay... salad on a stick? 2:57? I really want to know more about this party....

Tramps, the race in AZ starts really early. I'm almost more concerned with the start time (NOT a morning person) than the temps, which will be cool at the start and warm up but not be too bad by the time we finish. Even if I take 4.5 hours to finish, that would be an 11 a.m. finish time so should be ok. (and I you don't think so, don't tell me. I've convinced myself with this reasoning, let it be.)

Plan is to head to the pool today, but I'm not making much progress. Getting a little bit of "oh what's the use?" thinking. On a plus note, my foot is feeling better, but I'm not going to test it (yet).

I think Trump's Sweden comment is very concerning and I am wondering how his press will explain it.  Fatigue?  This hits a little close to home as my ex-husband is showing signs of an early onset, behavioral dementia - which runs in his family.  I hope I am wrong but I highly doubt it as he is now showing motor symptoms. Sad   Also kind of explains his sudden departure from our marriage 4 years ago and other uncharacteristic actions, comments and memory lapses.

The cat café was a bit lame.  Turns out, 13 out of 14 cats like to sleep.  Who knew?  A few started to perk up as we were leaving.  They probably save their energy for the middle of the night, when the pesky visitors are not there.  I think a puppy café would be more fun, but probably a lot of lattes would get knocked over.

Well, it's raining again!  Not sure what to do.  I feel better, for sure.  I'd like to run 5 miles.  I guess I will watch the radar to see when I might get a break from the currently heavy downpour.

                      MM #5615

                        Hello everybody!

You would think that, with all the great weather we're having here, I would be in a great mood...but no.  I have been down in the dumps for a week, now, and have just been trying to ignore it but I have a big old case of the blues.  I have been very worried about Eric lately and how we're dealing with him.  I know we're not doing things right but I don't know the right way to do things.  I can't stand my job and I don't see a whole lot of hope in being able to get away from it.  And...my whole dang body hurts.  After spending a few hours, yesterday, hanging in a tree hand-sawing tree limbs above my head, my shoulders and back have joined my glutes, hamstring, knee, and feet in reminding me that I am no longer close to being a spring chicken.  Okay--I'm waiting for one of you to slap me and tell me to stop feeling sorry for myself.

Well, I drug this pitiful, battered, old body out the door and did 6 miles.

Okay--I'm done.  Debbie wants me to throw some burgers on the grill.  See ya!

Intellectually, I know this is fine; they're frozen.  But viscerally, this totally grossed me out. Bleh!

That is exactly what I was thinking, but was afraid to say!!! Thought it was just the pescatarian in me!!

MikeE - I so get it!! I am so annoyed and worried about Justin right now. He is back home and I know he is so off track, but I just don't know what to do to change things. Plus being sick and injured after vacation is not helping - I just want to get out and run but I can't!!

BerthaSlayer - that is an amazing picture -- good for you!!

Jay - why does the party start at 2:57?

I really wanted to run today - in the 50's in February!! So I warmed up, walked, tried to run and no go!!  It hurt right away and I really don't want to do anything stupid so I came in, rode the recumbent bike for 15 minutes then did a lot of quad stretching.

We met the younger 2 sons with their SO, my sister, her dh, my niece and mom out at a winery and had a really nice afternoon of wine tasting. Went back to the married son's apartment afterward and had a nice little feast.  So glad to be feeling better except for the quad strain - now when most are thankful for the extra day off tomorrow, I am thankful to be doing some food prep for work. I love 12 hours of time and a half for these Monday holidays!!

                          denise

Great photo, Lori! You must enjoy playing in the mud. Wasn't that water pretty cold? I hate getting my shoes soaked like that.

After my 7-mile run yesterday morning, I walked 4+ brisk miles with my DW and some of my usual early-season foot problems cropped up (nothing serious, but a callous/blister on one of my toes that occasionally flares up). In any case, it felt good to get off my feet at the end of the day!

Then today was almost a repeat of yesterday, but a bit cooler. So even though I hadn't had much time to do my usual winter maintenance, I got my almost-new bike up from the basement and went for an 18-mile ride. With all the running I've been doing, I'm aerobically in really good shape, but I haven't been taking my usual spin classes this winter and my quads were kinda screaming at me about it. I took it easy overall, but I'm going to be sore tomorrow (which is expected to be a three-peat for beautiful weather). We've set a couple of temperature records and I'm pretty sure this is the earliest bike ride I've ever taken in a given year.

TomWhite - I missed it - what did you do to your wrists?

MikeE - you are one of the most amazing people I know - smart, funny, kind, giving, amazing athlete, incredible father and grandfather, etc.  We NEVER know if what we are doing is right, but I have confidence that, if anyone is doing the best, it is you.

Lori - LOVE the picture!  If you are ever in my neck of the woods, I would be happy to run a trail race with you, as I am not the speediest either, and think that those of us in the back of the pack sometimes have more fun.

Deez - hope you heal up soon.  Miss you!  Wish you came to my part of the country sometimes, we would run together!
