Marathon Maniac #957
For those of you who are new, this is the 40/40 thread, for people who are over 40 years old who run 40 miles/week or more. We give Free Passes to those who come really close or try really hard...
Here’s what I have for last week’s tally. Let me know if I missed you.

Letting a twingy knee rest
Here's my tentative plan for the week, given that 3 days' rest seems to have nipped the hamstring tendon problem. Still tentative, though, and I will ease up if it recurs.

Life is a headlong rush into the unknown. We can hunker down and hope nothing hits us or we can stand tall, lean into the wind and say, "Bring it on, darlin', and don't be stingy with the jalapenos."
Thanks Holly - I hope a day or two of recovery offers a cure.

Why is the air so humid and thick I feel like I'm carrying a

I came into this week a little run down and was thinking to take a cutback week. But was feeling better by midweek so I decided to keep on with the mileage buildup.

I finally found out what is wrong with me. I have a small tear in the upper hamstring tendon. From what I understand these things take a long time to heal. So I'll be back posting here, it will just take some time.
It's a relief to know what is wrong.
Not at it at all.
MRPHinNJ: Who diagnosed the hamstring tear and what are their recommendations for recovery of the injury? Physical therapy, rest, other options?
I just switched doctors because I had a couple of months go by without finding out what my problem was. The new doctor ordered an MRI, which showed the tear. Recommedations are PT for stretching and strengthening. I am not sure exactly what the PT will consist of; first appointment is Tuesday. I've been doing an hour of yoga three or four days a week, and I'll continue with that. I'm not sure about when to get back to running; I'll ask about biking since that doesn't stress the hamstrings as much.
I know what you mean. Sometimes half the battle is the diagnosis, now you can have a plan of action. Good luck with your rehab.
MRPHinNJ: Let me know what the physical therapist recommends. I am curious about the specific course of action they will take with you on this specific injury as well as their timetable for returning to jogging/training/racing. Did they say which hamstring muscle/tendon was torn?
