Sunday, May 30 Runs and Holiday Weekend Fun (Read 632 times)

good late afternoon everyone! Hope the nice long weekend is treating you all well.

Bill, did you perhaps mean TC is your last marathon "this year"??   Of course, it's always too soon to decide whether or not to run another marathon right after one which didn't end the way you wanted, but you know what?  . .. even if you do decide not to run marathons again, then so be it. It's not like running 26.2 defines who you are as a runner. Run for fun, run for exercise, run for shorter races, take a break from running if need be. It's all good and it's whatever you want to do. Training for one marathon after another is exhausting. physically of course, but mentally even moreso. I hope you still had a wonderful time in MI - seeing fellow RA/KR's and family too.

I ran 8 yesterday, 5 this morning and then went on a short 2 mi hike with my son this afternoon to "Limpy Creek Botanical Trail" - several species of wildflowers in bloom including Mariposa Lily, which reminds me our own Mariposai (who I'll really miss this coming wknd!). I love going back there when the Indian Paintbrush is in bloom.

Will get in a few miles tomorrow also. It's a day off work, so I should take advantage of it.

    Tammy

Happy Memorial Day weekend friends and thank you to all our veterans!!

I did hill repeats on friday then a core strength class and boy was I wiped!!  My hats off to those of you who do hill repeats on a regular basis - I really need to get more in and now figure I will most likely be walking Mt Washington Road Race with my girlfriend!!

Worked a quiet 12 hour night shift last night so was able to get a solid sleep today and get up early enough to squeeze in a 3.5 mile easy run with some abwork before coming back in.  This is my summer holiday so doing the whole weekend - sat/sunday/monday.

Many great runs over this weekend - even tho I'm not good about commenting on all please know I read them and admire you all!!  So sorry to hear about Bill's DNF and CNY runners fall - please be good to yourselves!

      Have a wonderful weekends friends!!

Greetings! Great running.  Karin, I hope you are ok... falling stinks.

No running today, but we did a nice hike with DS. Did the traditional Franconia   Ridge Traverse, about 9 miles, three summits ( Haystack, Lincoln, Lafayette),  great views... and today, MANY people.    Probably was not briliant to choose a popular hike on a holiday weekend, but DS had not been yet and our time is limited. Nice day, VERY windy on the ridge but not terribly cold as those things go.   It felt great to get out. DS is incredibly strong now too. He is almost 11, very athletic but still built like a kid.  In a couple of years, or sooner, he will  be waiting for us, and we are pretty fit. Just don't have 11 year old knees.

And in the boondoggle report, Border Patrol was set up and stopping (or slowing) all cars coming south through about Exit 32 on 93, Roughly Woodstock NH.  Two border patrol agents on thr road and several more milling about.   Unless things have changed, still a couple of hours south of the Canadian border.  When we drove in, they just waved us through, but I wonder if they were stopping Canadian cars.  Lots of French Canadians on the trail.  The holiday weekends are big for Canadian tourism, but Border Patrol???  What were they hoping to find?  Very odd. I would think there are better uses of $$$$. But maybe there is some sting I don't know about.

Yesterday was a 10 miler and then some tennis with DS. Not sure about tomorrow.

          Lamerunner, that hike sounds lovely.

Walter, great job on that marathon. 3:17 wow. Congrats.

Tammy's post is the post of the day . Good job for defining so well what running is all about.

I finally got my run in this afternoon. My DS#2 drove me out of town so I can run back home. Not a trail run, but at least it was a mountain road. Two and half hours of running with Salmon Creek escorting me home.

What a lovely run. No watch, I figure with only two weeks post-marathon I am going to led my body be my guide as far as how fast I run. Salmon creek can be very full this time of the year. When the creek was closed to the road I would stop, sit down and just contemplate nature, thinking of places I have only visited thru pictures or just letting the mind flow donwstream just as the water in the creek was doing. All in all it was a glorious run.

Ouch Karin... take care of those scrapes. You might feel pretty sore tomorrow. Another good reason to run with a cellphone!

Nice race, Walt! I figured you had a smokin' fast time in you.

Miss you, too, Nancy! We'll have to have a phone chat soon.

I didn't get out for a run today at all. Well, that's ok. I'd wanted to run 12-13 to get my 40 mile week, but will have to do with 27.9. What I did do today was work around the house and garden. Woohoo! About 6 hours in the garden, man that's hard work. My legs are sore and my butt will be sore tomorrow from all the squatting, stooping, raking, shoveling, etc. Plus, we're on a hill so every trip to the garden from the garage was up the hill, and then back down to get stuff. What a workout. BUT, the best news? I'm almost done! Just a few rows to plant tomorrow, mostly potatoes and I've prepped those already. Some small seed stuff to do tomorrow which is a pain, but should go fast. I usually need a few extra days to get everything done, but this year I think I'll have it all wrapped up tomorrow. That's very cool. Worth missing a run over.

(Oh, the smoke is kind of bad today too which is the real reason I didn't get out for my run...)

while you look for a "I run like a girl" singlet for your oldest daughter to wear at x-country camp this summer.

That’s okay, Walt.  You don’t have to tell US it’s for your daughter.      Smokin’ race, btw.

              Tetsujin –

CNYRunner – ouch!  That was a nasty fall!  I hope the aftereffects are minimal.

Jlynne – congratulations on your 3rd AG placement!

              Dave59 – Annabelle is adorable!

Enke – nice job on your run of 30-mile weeks!

              Tamster - +1

              Erika – that’s some serious gardening/x-training!

Life is a headlong rush into the unknown. We can hunker down and hope nothing hits us or we can stand tall, lean into the wind and say, "Bring it on, darlin', and don't be stingy with the jalapenos."
