So there is that very long row of treadmills at the gym, right. And in December it was really empty and on most days I was the only one running there. I know the New Year resolution is a real thing, but the dramatic change is quite striking. All treadmills are now taken and many runners are seriously going for the world record, by the looks of it.

I'm glad I have my own treadmill even if I loathe using it. It's a good thing too since I did mainly treadmill runs this week.

        Here's what I had.

        M - 6.3 treadmill miles (9:40/mile)

        T - 6 treadmill miles (10:03/mile)

        W - 4 treadmill miles (10:13/mile)

        Th - 11 outside miles (9:54/mile

        F - 6.2 treadmill miles (10:03/mile)

        Sa - travel day

        Su - travel day

A vacation week upcoming, so I'm not sure what I'll be able to run.

See what the gym is like in a week.  From what I read, the majority of fitness-based new year's resolutions are over by January 15.

Alexander - nice job on being over 50 miles for the week.

          Paul - enjoy your vacation.

My week started disappointingly when I only got halfway through the 5k race before fading, despite good conditions and a flat course.  Happily, the week ended well with a good result on a 10k cross country race where I got my 2nd fastest time on the course (I've done it 4 times), which I didn't expect this early in the season.  Sunday's long run became "go just far enough to get to green" since 39º and raining is among my least favorite weather conditions and add the occasional slush on the streets and I had no interest in going 10 miles.  I have no access to a treadmill, so running in the rain was my only option (other than not running).  35 miles for the week.

The 50 miles in the last week of December took a toll on me, though was worth it to secure a win for my and Fred's team in the mileage game.

My third winning team in 5 attempts. Won with Tammy (as co-captains) of Modi-5 Button in 2018 and now back-to-back wins with MotherFooters in 2022 and The Gogos in 2023. Hope to add to that with Alexander R this year.

So I started off 2024 with a sore and blistered right big toe and then succumbed to the cold my DW caught from the grandkids at Christmas ...

            Monday 2.1 miles (9:42 pace)

Tuesday 2.1 miles (9:49 pace) - ends my streak of 2+ TM miles per day under 10-minute pace at 169 days.

You've had some incredible teams Quickadder! winning 3 of 5 is stellar!

Slow start to my new year - already falling behind pace bunny, but won't take much to get ahead of the race at this point.

              Last week:

              Mon: 6 miles on trails

              Wed: 3.6

              Fri: 7.3

              Sat: 3.5

              total: 20.4.

soooo, I already did not make green on the first week of competition. Was about 4 miles short.

Hoping for a better week and, at a minimum, hitting green for the game, which is only 24 miles.

Nice week, Paul! Interesting that you are running similar paces on treadmill and outdoors. For me, treadmill is usually a bit faster.

Fred, yes,  the resolutioners don't last long. In my experience it gets back to normal by mid-February or so. Congratulations on the fast XC 10k! Cross country courses are fairly brutal, so it's a very good indicator. I saw people running in the cold rain on that Sunday and, yes, that was definitely something I did not want to do. Kudos on pushing though and getting the green.

Quickadder, impressive you got so many wins, 3 out of 5 is incredible! A down week after all that effort in December with 200% weeks and all that is completely normal.

Tammy, yes, pace bunny can be very annoying, but early in the year it's easy to catch up. With 4 runs and 20 miles total it is a good week, but I guess that is the whole point of the mileage game, it pushes us to run more.
