Marathon Maniac #957
For those of you who are new, this is the 40/40 thread, for people who are over 40 years old who run 40 miles/week or more. We give Free Passes to those who come really close or try really hard...
Here’s what I have for last week’s tally. Let me know if I missed you or you want to add in late. Lots of 20-milers happening - must be marathon training season....

Tks again Holly.
My week sees me in a mini taper and a long run paced marathon. Less than two weeks left in the heat and humidity of Japan. Mon: 4 miles - 3.0 miles (8:39 pace)
Tues: am 5 miles, pm 5 miles
am: 7.8 miles (7:53 pace) nice up beat run before the sun came up
pm: 7.8 miles (7:56 pace) same run as in the am, but this was in the heat/humidity. Felt like I was swimming.
Wed: 7 miles - 7.4 miles (8:32 pace) good recovery run, before sunup.
Thurs: 6 miles - 6.0 miles (8:42 pace) resting up if ya can.
Fri: 4 miles - 4.8 miles (8:21 pace) with some 2 minute pickups.
Sat: 26.2 miles - Imperial Palace Marathon, 20.0 miles, was at 8:20 pace through 11 miles and feeling good, although I was sweating heavily. Then starting having tummy issues so slowed down and finished lap 4 (13.8 miles in just under 2 hrs). Decided to walk the 5th lap and see how I felt. I did feel a lttle better but not good enough to run so, I walked lap 6 and took pictures. Finished 20 miles and stopped. With the walking to and from the train stations totals for the day were: 13.7 miles running and 12.4 miles walking. Story of the day: live the run another day.
Sun: 8 miles - 7.0 miles (8:52 pace) slow and easy. tummy feeling good, but I developed a big blister on the ball of my right foot yesterday. ouch..
Total: 63.8 miles

Thanks Holly. Marathon day is fast approaching, 3 weeks from Sunday. One more tough week then I can think about scaling back a bit. This weekend will be especially tough, with a 5 mile race Saturday followed by a ~3 hour run Sunday
5 mile race was on a hilly course. It was muggy with a light rain. I'm pleased with the effort.
Not at it at all.
Thanks Holly.
Always nice to get that first 20 miler done in a marathon training plan. This week:

Hang in there all of you (us) with the marathon training..we can do this! I hear you on the hat and gloves Slimbo.
Here's the plan:
8/17----6 recovery----10.9 easy run with thoughts of the late Janet Constantino all the way
8/18----4-6------5 miles with Tramps in Richmond, VA
8/19----16 with 3x20 @7:15 (3)
8/20----8 miles in Rochester
8/21----6 miles in Toronto
8/22----3 easy in am in Toronto/ 4-5x1 mile repeats in Rochester----5 mile fartlek in Toronto
8/23----23 miles (10@ 9:00/10@7:45-50/3@9:00)--faster 10 was more like 7:30-7:40 very happy
73.9 total---good week with two cyber friend meet-ups and vacation (too brief as always)----three more weeks of 70 plus mileage and then the miles start to come down a bit as I get my marathon brain in gear.
core and weights 3x
hiking, swimming, and lots of city walking
i'm lovin' it... MM#1949

Thanks Holly, this heat and the humidity is really making it tough...but I'm not going to complain because we had such a wet & cool spring and early summer and those colder temps will be here before you know it.

Hey Guys! Made it back from Vegas in one piece and "won a few $$", but of course that all goes back all the other expenses assocaited at staying at a high priced resort/casino (venitian which is nice btw).
Gambling Plan:
Win Big
Got Ass Kicked at Blackjack, won 50% of the $80 free slot credits
Hate slots so soon as played long enough / won to cash out I did. Know plan is give this guy $80 to lose $160. But took my $50 and never played another slot. At this point "vegas sucks"
Won $$ at blackjack at tropicana
Won $ at BJ at Venitian
Probably
That 9 mile run in desert heat paid off ... good mojo today. Tropicana needs to be knocked down as not remodeled or maybe cleaned since 60's. There to see Bobby slaton - comedian (do not recommend)
Won $$ at blackjack at Venitian when Wife would not let me back in room until her naptime was up
Wed night $$$ - Hit it pretty good at Hardrock for Kings of Leon concert
At this point think up on the week.
For those never at HardRock .... 40/40 threaders = grand parents as 90% of crowd looked underage.
For some reason our 40 yr old friend thought this would be fun, but 20+ years older than 95% of crowd.
No gambling. As wass leaving "ahead"
So by the time you factor in 3 -4 high priced meals, 7 - 10 dollar drinks at the bar, etc. probably did not win much
Running Plan
rest
1st Day in Vegas / Jetlag, etc.
6
9
up at 8:00AM morning in vegas, actually up at 5:30 but knew friend was in no shape before 7:30am wakeup. 5k fast friend wants to see who the big dog is so we take him into deepwater and run 9 as he never ran beyond 6 and generally only does 3 - 4. He is a good athlete so did fine, although purposely picked up pace mile 9 as felt him starting to regret the extra 3 miles. He acted fine but at dinner "So Rob .... I suppose you want to run a marathon tommorow" ... I told hime "dude you picked your poison".

3 miles on dreadmill at spa felt worse than the 9 miles in desert heat!
Last day in Vegas/travel
6 - 7
5.35
hopefully good run after travel jetlag. ALready felt like shit this AM as now on vegas time and went to bed at 4:30AM. Planned run late afternoon while DD is at XC practice.
Well did not plan run nor had garmin .. so just ran. so good enough I guess.
4 - 5
Junk Miles
I will chalk this up to jetlag ... or just being lazy but have felt bad last two days not being able to sleep. Legs actually feel good as really needed a stepback anyways as have been going hard for quite a while. Should still get 35 milers this week... not to bad I guess with a week in vegas.

Need that Longrun
WOW I am pissed at myself. Like not enough drinking staying out late in vegas, decided to go out sturday night and totally blew off my Sunday run.
Did get 12 miler in the evening and it felt like a 18 miler!
38 - 40
29.35
"It's supposed to be hard. If it wasn't hard, everyone would do it. The hard... is what makes it Great!
41.6 miles for the week. It should have been over 50 but I took an extra rest day and got rained out of the 2nd part of my AM/PM double LR on Sunday. I did have a nice 9 mile progression run though.
I guess I'll just have to call it a cutback week!
