a strange week, recovering from last Sunday NYC half and tapering for San Diego half. San Diego was not particularly easy, with strong headwinds in the first 4 miles, periods of light rain and a brutal mile 9 and 10 climb. The last miles were downhill and I was happy to finish strong with 6:52 and 6:55 mile 12, 13 splits. Later, I found out that I was 3rd AG, out of 103. Compare this to NYC, however, where I ran about a minute faster, but finished 60-something out of 700-something in the AG.

Alexander - Congratulations on the AG podium!  Well done in tough conditions.

My 5k was cancelled because we had 3" of rain the day before and the low-lying part of the course was flooded.  That's my third cancelled race this year, which is more than in my other 9 years of racing combined.  35.3 miles this week.

          Fred, thank you!

Yes, unfortunately they do cancel races on the slightest pretexts these days, and I really hate it. NYRR in particular has been canceling events based on weather predictions, and of course the weather was just fine on the day of the race. In the end it all depends on the race director of course. Some have fairly strong personalities and I'm 100% sure they will never cancel (like, not even in 2020 for Covid), but some others are weak and end up canceling even though they really do not have to.
