Marathon Maniac #957
For those of you who are new, this is the 40/40 thread, for people who are over 40 years old who run 40 miles/week or more. We give Free Passes to those who come really close or try really hard...
Here’s what I have for last week’s tally. Let me know if I missed you or added wrong.

Bill, my PR marathon was done on the cycle with the fewest miles, every Monday and Friday off running. It’s got me thinking lately...maybe more is not better for all of us.

Sorry to hear that your leg is bothering you. Any chance that 2 weeks of rest will heal it? Your training is in the bag at this point.

Life is a headlong rush into the unknown. We can hunker down and hope nothing hits us or we can stand tall, lean into the wind and say, "Bring it on, darlin', and don't be stingy with the jalapenos."
Taper week 1 of 2. Nothing much here except the fast finish MLR on Saturday. Otherwise, this is an easy week designed to heal up and strengthen up the legs.

9 miles EZ followed by 6 at MP, 1 mile cool down.
MP miles at 8:27, 8:25, 8:21, 8:22, 8:29, and 8:24.
The hamstring behaved more or less!
Somehow I tweaked my ITB walking around the house. Really!
I didn't trip or aything. It just started spazing on me. So a rest day seemed like a smart thing to do.
Hamstring is behaving. One more week to make sure.
"Some are the strong, silent type. You can't put your finger on exactly what it is they bring to the table until you run without them and then you realize that their steadiness fills a hole that leaks energy in their absence." - Kristin Armstrong
Hi Holly: well yesterday felt like a total waste for me, but maybe cutting it short was best. I ended up borrowing a foam roller from a running friend and used that yesterday. The leg feels much better today, but we’ll just have to play this by ear and see how things work out.
Not feeling overly confident with Boston a mere two weeks away...

Every Mile is a Gift
Thanks Holly.
I've still got three full weeks until I start my marathon taper. After today's 10-miler, I can tell I'll need to monitor my fatigue levels closely so I don't fall into serious overtraining. I'm walking (running) that edge right now.
So, with that said, here's my plan for this week:
Often injured, NEVER giving up.
Won't make 40 this week or for awhile as I'm going into taper mode. After my race I'll go back to my base mileage which is short of the magical "40" mile week.
It's been a nice run for me as I've got in 8 weeks of ovr 40 miles this training period.
Thanks Holly for the thread and to the othrs here who provide support and inspiration. Hope to see you all again!
Don't stay away for long evryday. It's been great to see you here---now go get that race and rock it.
Mainerunnah---I noticed your notes about your leg. I am so sorry and hope you can get the run you want at Boston. You've been so diligent about everything.

My plan for this week is ZERO.
Had MRI this morning to rule out medial meniscus tear...
Make a plan and work it -- zero miles for the week.
And you can quote me as saying I was mis-quoted. Groucho Marx

Hermosaboy - keeping my fingers and toes crossed that the MRI comes out ok.
This week finds me in San Diego working..
Mon: 4 am, 6 pm - flew to San Diego very early AM. 12.0 miles easy pace in the afternoon.
Tues: 9 miles - AM 5.0 miles, recovery pace, couldn't sleep so ran instead.
PM 7.0 miles with 6 miles as a progression run (8:05, 7:55, 7:51, 7:37, 7:11, 7:05) first 3 miles were into the wind so only upped the pace a little for the final 3 miles. Felt very good.
Wed: 11 miles - 14.0 miles aerobic paced, felt really good in sunny San Diego
Thurs: 10 miles - 6.0 miles recovery, legs felt very falt and tired this afternoon. Guess all the walking around the ship and standing is taking its toll.
Fri: 6 miles - 9.0 miles slow and easy.
Sat: 9-13 miles - 12.0 miles aerobic paced, plus another day working on the ship.
Sun: 18 miles - 15.0 miles mostly aerobic paced but with a few faster paced miles. another day working on the ship.
Total: 80.0 miles
