Good morning, everyone, and happy gallivanting to Jay!!  Got my morning run/walk in with DH and Dusty this morning, and it was COLD!!  40 degrees, according to weather underground, and I am not quite ready for that.  Plus DH took my car in to get serviced, and his car doesn't have heated seats.  So my butt still hasn't warmed up yet!

Yoga ... I think when I retire, I will start a regular yoga practice.  I just can't seem to find the time to do it regularly now.

Of course, there are those mornings where I'm not doing any kind of run/walk, and instead sleeping for half an hour longer.

Shoot.  Apparently I'm just making excuses again.

When it's all said and done, no one remembers how far we have run.  The only thing that matters is how we have loved.

      Spunky57

HI Friends! I'm Spunky from the Runners World Masters Forum. I ran the Heart Choices 5k yesterday. It was the first race I ran 10 years ago. It was a small race and I placed 2nd woman. Could have been first but a 7th grader tried really hard to stay with me the whole way. The last 100 meters I dropped back so she could cross first. I had no idea that we were 1st and 2nd women. Ha! Fun time. This was also my first race in a new AG.

I'll run 5 miles after work. I'm tapering this week just in case I get to race the Prairie Fire in Wichita Kansas on Sunday.

        Blessings All, Spunky

I'm glad to see some newcomers to our group - although sorry for the displacement of your previous group. Many of us know what that is like since we migrated here from a different platform that pretty much ruined the good thing we had going. But their loss is our gain, so it's all good!

Just a short run yesterday to start out October and won't be able to run today. I have a meeting after work that is a planning meeting for a relay I'll be helping with on Oct 13th. It's a 100 mile local relay being put on by the Josephine County Foundation, which my son is a board member of. A student led non-profit that does various community service projects. This particular relay is actually being run by students but some parents are doing the driving. Each student will only run 1-2 miles since it's not focused on having runners involved in it, but any student who wishes to participate. It's purpose is bringing attention and fundraising to anti-bullying campaigns in the local schools. So, that's my plan for today.

And tomorrow is our XC team Pre-District meet, so except for occassionally running around on the course, probably won't get in any mileage then either. Slow start to the month, but I'll be making up for it next week I'm sure when I'm on vacation all week and will be able to get in some decent running.

              Tammy

Tammy - that relay sounds pretty cool and a great way to raise awareness for anti-bullying!!

I ended up with a total of 10.2 miles this morning -- ran a 1 mile warmup, then 1 mile repeats with .25 mile recovery x 5 and another mile to cool-down. That left me at 8.2, but I didn't feel quite done and still had time before I was watching my granddaughters so I went and ran another 2 easy miles. Probably ran the mile repeats a little(lot) faster than I should for this recovery/training period, but it felt so good to let my legs go after my sluggish run Friday!!

Have to say my heel pain is really annoying me tho!! My chiro really thinks its PF due to tight achilles/calves based on where it hurts when he presses, but I don't have that typical morning, stepping out of bed pain. In fact, my feet felt great on my run, but as the day goes on my right heel hurts more and more. Ice bottle rolling, golf ball rolling, topricin - all help but I am annoyed by it for sure!!  Any thoughts?

Welcome Spunky57. You need to develop a killer instinct on those races.

I hit the ARC Trainer for 45 minutes this morning.  I actually found a link where someone described using the ARC trainer to overcome an injury and what kind of settings they used to make it at least something like a run. So that helped with some ideas. Calf is sore, tender, and tight.  I rolled it with the stick a little bit and it seemed to help, at least for a little while. It's just going to take patience.

SPUNKY57 welcome! Glad you are here. Post early (but probably not a good idea as early as coastwalker) and often! Funny story about the race. I must admit, coming in first or second is never a problem I have to face.

fatozzig be nice to that foot!

                    TammyinGP neat idea, the relay.

Dave59 my running joke about aches and pains like those is that I am suffering from O.L.D. A friend of mine quips that his pains are my fault for correctly diagnosing their cause without offering up a cure.

mariposai is going to mad at me for not posting in the weekend race thread my race on (get ready now . . . drum roll . . .) this WEEKEND!!! <Horns blow in the background.> Maybe I should go do that rather than type all this stuff here. But . . . but, what about today? I ran 6 with my training partner. During our trip I took these pictures down at Southport beach which I thought are pretty neat. The first is on the camera defaults. The second is with the aperture wide open.

                      Hello everybody!

The lightening kept the team inside, today.  I went 9 miles, including 6 at "strength" pace.

Okay--that's all I have time for.  My boss said he's meeting me at work at 5:00 am.  It should be a fun day.

                      See ya!

twocat, your pictures don't show up, at least not for me. Just a big minus sign in a circle. That was a half marathon you ran, right?

Tammy, cool idea for the relay!

Welcome to all the newcomers, RW loss is definitely our gain! I'm not familiar with that site at all, but sounds similar to when Active took over Cool Running and we all fled to RA.

Ran 5.2 today, sort of a progressive pace run with the first two miles at 8:47 and the last mile at 8:12, last .2 were a sub-8 sprint. Felt good out there, feeling optimistic about Steamtown! Early flight to Anchorage tomorrow for a one-day conference, home around 7:10 pm so tomorrow will be a rest day (not that getting up at 3:30 to catch a 5:45 a.m. flight is a "rest" day, but still).

Yup, and that is exactly what I did yesterday.  No workout for me on Monday, just a little extra sleep...

Life is a headlong rush into the unknown. We can hunker down and hope nothing hits us or we can stand tall, lean into the wind and say, "Bring it on, darlin', and don't be stingy with the jalapenos."
