    Good Morning Trailers!

We got a little dump of snow last night, supposed to get another couple of inches by noon.  We're still in the 75% of normal range for snowpack, so keep it coming!

Will get out with Tiny E today for a few miles; nice to be retired and go when I want to

qotd: nix Russian oil that will further drive up oil prices?

The US is in a good position relatively speaking as it only accounts for 3-4% of our crude; Europe is in poor position as it accounts for a lot more.  Regardless, if it has some potential of getting Putin back to reality- it's worth a little pain

qotd: our use of Russian oil only accounts for about 2%.  The EU is in much worse shape as they also get the natural gas for heating and the like along with the crude. There's a whole issue with US production of it's own as many refineries shut down due to Katrina and then the Covid shutdown in 2020.  Oil producers didn't bring many on line as they are now making so much it makes up for the negative in 2020.

Here in OK there are many trucks on the road, people who live in the suburbs, and the cities drive trucks and listening to them bitch is hilarious...they also drive like maniacs and speed all over the place, they deserve some pain.

Spring took a brief departure but not too bad this morning.. 40 with some wind. Last night was crazy windy when I walked the dogs before bedtime. Front was blowing through and blowing away our nice spring weather. Some snow tomorrow am or so they say.

Plan is for 5 miles or so this evening either at the lake or hills of CW. I will be a runtime decision.

QOTD: Clearly this would not be a problem if Joe Biden was not elected and the keystone pipeline extension was not shut down. At least that is what the guy at the local gas station in VA informed us in his rant and rave. Funny article I read yesterday from a DC satirist cheering for the higher prices to spite the trucker convoy protest circling the beltway the other day. At 5$+ a pop for diesel a bit expensive.

In dog beers, I've only had one.

Keystone was a bit of joke really.  Touted as creating all of these jobs in the US. There would be jobs constructing the pipeline and then after a couple of years, that's it (a few folks staying on for maintenance is all).

The tar sands crude for Canada was destined for Texas where it was to be loaded on barges headed for China and India to refined there.  Not a lot of benefit for the US (arguably none), but obviously a lot of risk to the US with potential leaks of Canadian crude (which is higher with tar sand crude due to its acidity).

A pipeline from the Bakken fields in North Dakota and Eastern Montana to refineries in Texas (for our use) would be significantly more palatable than Canadian crude to China and India.

MT I agree, Keystone was ill thought of and the potential for environmental damages too great for the expected return.  A lot of the refineries in TX and LA were damaged in the hurricanes.  There a lot of oil wells here in OK that were shut down and have still not been turned back on.  Part of it is the fracking mess and part is the greed of the oil companies, they are making record profits (disclaimer I own stock in Exxon and the value has doubled).  Unfortunately war is profitable for some companies but costly in lives lost.

45 min stationary biking this morning.  The excitement of it was almost overwhelming.

QOTD: Although we're looking at The Hub having gas bills of $600-$700/month at this point, I'm all for doing anything that puts the pinch, however big or small, on Russia.

I was going to get up and run this morning, but there was a bunch of lightening so I got to sleep another hour instead.  I'll do 5 mi after work today.

qotd: Yeah, it's all connected, one little trip somewhere (or a sanction as the case may be) and the whole system goes berserk.  I heard two related things on NPR yesterday.

                    (a) although the US gets very little oil from Russia, the sanctions will drive up the price of oil, so then the US gas prices go up anyway.

                    (b) the US southern refineries are designed to handle sour crude and they don't handle Texas sweet crude so well.  Therefore the US exports Texas sweet crude to Europe for their refineries to handle it, and then the US imports sour crude so that our southern refineries can handle that.

Either one of these items totally screw with our gas prices.
