St Paddy's Daily (Read 16 times)

For the non or casual Irish, it's always Paddy (from Padraig) and never Patty (a girls name).  My Grandfather would yell at anyone who said Patty's day, plus St. Patrick's day was more of a religious day for him and not a binge drinking day. However, he did own a Pub, so he didn't complain too much about drinking, it was too good for business.

Still making baby steps forward but part time work is going well.  Weather has not been great for doing outside walks, so the TM has been my friend.  We're going to Hilton Head on Friday to use out timeshare. Hope to get some walks on the beach and hit one our our regular trails. We used to run a lot of mileage on our trips to HH since we were always preparing for a Memorial Day race so this will seem strange.

In honor of St. Patrick's Day, here's a shot of my brother and me, from a few years ago, at Adare Manor Golf Club in Ireland. My brother is 6'3", so I look small next to him.

QOTD:  I know we are mostly a beer drinking crowd, but any Whiskey drinkers, Irish or otherwise?

    “Paralysis-to-50k” training plan is underway!

On Monday's run I slipped in mud on a downhill.  My hand landed on a small stump, with a higher section between my pinky and ring finger.  I heard a snap and felt the PAIN!!  My first thought was this is going to be expensive!   OK I can wiggle the fingers, not broke.  Later realized the snapping was probably the wood separating my finger.  Hand a black and blue swollen stump but I will live.

Tuesday I skipped the run.   Will run today.

qotd:  Was going to join the running group tonight but my college friend invited me out for drinks.  Haven't seen her since college.  Whiskey...I enjoy it occasionally but not knowledgeable.

Podcast:  I have been listening my Dad wrote a Porno when I run.  Pretty funny and I like listening to there English.

Reading:  I have been reading a lot jately but my list isn't impressive like fatozzig   Just reading for fun.

qotd: I love Tullamore Dew Irish Whiskey. I don't drink anymore but when I could find it that was my drink of choice.  For beer I'd been drinking Dragons Milk which is aged in bourbon barrels.

I've been thinking of walking on the TM but just have been too tired so maybe.

Good morning AT and happy Saint Paddy's day. Enjoy your trip down south.

Not much yet today. Grey and misty this morning and just had time for a mile walk as I had a blood draw scheduled for routine labs for my old man checkup later this month. Will run later, after work. Trail, road TBD.

I did get in about 5 miles yesterday with Baker out at the lake. The weather was calm, grey, upper 30's but felt chilled. That's March for you. Jan/Feb it would have felt mild. The trails were desolate last night. Not a soul on the section we ran. Mixed it up a bit and headed away from the lake for a few miles of twisty stuff in the spruce forest.

QOTD: Nope, not a whisky drinker.

In dog beers, I've only had one.

I've been to Adare.  That was one of the villages we stayed at.  You should recognize this:

Yes, I know where that is. Just up from the Trinitarian Abbey.  My HS was run by the Trinitarian Brothers, so we had to stop in to the Abbey while there.

Very cool pic.  That roof line is amazing.

I didn't remember it was St. Paddy's Day until I saw the news anchors on TV wearing green.  By then I was already dressed and didn't have the oompf to change.  Had a hard time waking up this a.m., so I caved and stayed in bed instead of working out . . . and it felt good and I don't feel guilty (. . . so far . . .)

QOTD:  We don't drink (The Hub is a recovering alcoholic - 10 yrs sober come April 21!!), but even when I did, I was a lightweight, so nope on the whiskey.  Although when I go see my besty in Portland, I'll have a couple of hard ciders over the course of my stay.  Yum!

I had a client come in late yesterday morning quite upset with me for not having something done that, in all honesty, should've been completed awhile ago, but I'm swamped and it just hasn't happened.  Him: It sounds like you have too much on your plate.  Me in My Head: No $hit, Sherlock!  Me Outside My Head: Well, it comes with the territory.  I apologized, he accepted, but when he said again that I have too much on my plate, I wanted to punch him.  It's not like I can go to my boss and say, "Hey, can we stop taking on clients until I get caught up?"

Anyway, I'm hopeful today goes better ~~

After Monday's 10, yesterday was the minimum mile-ish run around the neighborhood. We had that tease of spring and now it's cold and rainy out. It felt cold, but in that same way XT describes.  I'll fit in a few miles, and probably will head to Rock Creek shortly. Should be quiet as it's a weekday and not sunny and warm.

Queen- Ouch, that sounds awful. Mostly your described sound effects, and good to hear that it doesn't seem broken.

qotd: Now that it's being asked, I don't think I've ever had whiskey. Unless there was a whiskey sour late one night in my youth. I like gin, beer and wine.  And cider, if it's tart and dry (not the sweet stuff).

                  Sandy-2

Did 3 mi this morning, the taper continues.  As always, it was really warm and muggy this morning. Now it's raining like crazy, with some thunderstorms about, looks like it's nighttime out there.

Here's a little somethin' for AT (a friend sent it to me):

qotd: I think we have some Irish whisky gathering dust in our kitchen cabinet, plus some Irish Mist and Baileys.

                    tbd.

Ran 4 miles this morning with the headlamp. It was slow but good.

QOTD: Yes. I enjoy a good bourbon. However, I have been out of bourbon for about a week or two. That hasn't happened in a long time. I'll probably pick up a bottle to take on the camping/hunting trip next weekend. I guess it will be Wild Turkey. We need to make sure we kill at least one wild turkey on the trip. So, that can be our ace in the hole.

Enjoyed the sound of my run  6 miles of crunch crunch crunch of the snow.  Only one fall when I stopped suddenly to pick up my ear speaker.  It was ice under the snow.

Heading out for some speedwork now.

QOTD: Not a whiskey fan.  I'll stick to the beer, thanks.  Sláinte!
