Got my biking shoes off and threw on my racing flats. Transition time was pretty slow, but I got into a quick rhythm and passed a group of 5 guys within the first half mile. After the 2 mile mark I still felt strong and saw I was around 1:13. This was the first time I really looked at my watch to see where I was at and before the race, I had told myself anything under 1:20 would be good. I figured I could muster up a 5:45 or 5:50 to get in around 1:19. I checked my watch again at 1:16 and told myself I had three minutes left. About a minute later I turned left and saw the finish line just 75 yards away. Needless to say, I finished with just a little bit too much due to the short course, but I finished feeling pretty happy about the whole race.

Overall, I'm pretty happy about today, especially considering how I have been feeling this week. The duathlon is a fun event, I liked the variety and competing in a different form of endurance. It was one of those races where I never looked at my splits because you were so energized by the idea of competing and chasing people down. After results were posted online, I ended up 4th overall and my last run was the second fastest among duathlon and triathlon participants. The more I race on a bike the more I enjoy it. I would love to get a nice road bike, but I need to prioritize my spending habits and wait on that till next year. I have plenty of room for improvement in this event in both endurance events and especially my transition times. The race itself had some issues with organization and providing adequate information before the event, but now that I know what to expect, or what not to expect, I can be more prepared for it.
