ISU Invitational. went into this with the idea that it would be more of a tempo rather than race since I didn't want to put that race effort out yet this early coming back into full training. course was wet and it was raining throughout, spikes felt good for the first time using them. i started in the back of our group but the race went out slow and i was able to make my way to the left of the front when it narrowed and i stayed that high up through the first mile-2k. i felt very easy (obviously at the beginning of a race). i had a tougher time settling since a decent amount of guys were passing me between 2k and 4k, including dan and carlitos. i kept up with carlitos and eventually moved up. i was trying to keep this more as a tempo effort instead of race but it was tricky since my leg felt the best it had and i was in our top 5 throughout. eventually al caught me around the 5k and i started to go with him but i was getting tired and with the combination of fatigue and very slight tightness in my leg, i decided at the 4mile mark that it would be smarter for me to drop out then grind through another mile to the finish, especially since i was still our 5th guy at the time. i felt like a pussy doing it, but i did it and i think it was smart for my future (especially the rest of the season). i was within 5-10meters of al at the 4mile so i took his average pace for the 8k and guesstimated my time at the 4mile around that. Also, my right calf was swollen as fuck and i had to wear a calf sleeve to keep it a little lose. my right calf is super stiff and probably twice the size of my left leg
