first race back since week 3 of indoors as a result of the stress fracture in my femur. third race of college overall but my first loss haha. i've been running for only 6 weeks and have only done workouts for 3 weeks so i did about as well as i could have expected. i felt very comfortable throughout the whole race, so i know i can run faster for sure once i break out of the relaxed state. like i said earlier, obviously it was my first race and really my only time running this fast since ive been running again so it was a solid rust-buster. i went out and got good position right behind jake brown. dale took the lead and i followed in a string behind them and eventually schaible. i didnt really respond quick to any moves they made but i was able to call all of them within about 100 meters. dale led for awhile and then brown took the lead and dale and schaible started to fade. i passed them both pretty quick but brown had already gapped me by like 20-25ish meters. it stayed like that for the next couple of laps and on the last lap i started closing the gap. i got it down to less than 5 meters with a little over 100meters to go but then i tightened up as i hit the wind and he pulled away. besides my slow last 100 i was probably at like 50 for the 300 because i was closing pretty well. but hey, it was my first race and the fact that i was strong enough to stay relatively relaxed and even-paced throughout in somewhat windy conditions is good. better things are definitely to come. my splits were roughly 4:49, 4:52, 4:48, and then whatever last for the last .1 so my last mile was actually the best and it could have been better had i not tightened up too. the main difference i felt between this race and my 5k at GV is that i did not feel in control and as strong as i did there. i guess that is totally to be expected since ive been running for 6 weeks and then i had been running for over 2 months and was hitting 70s already. i hit 57 last week and the week before was like 47 so mileage is still in the making. at GV i made a huge move with a mile to go and i felt really strong doing it. obviously i didnt have that yesterday even though i was relatively relaxed but i did still PR which is great for my first race back and my rust buster. the PR is by like 2 tenths of a second but a PR nonetheless. overall, it was a solid debut and fast enough to get me into the 5k at conference next week when i go back on the roster
