USATF 25km Championships. 19th, 1:23:03. Its been a rough week so far, with the acknowledged injury then my allergies flared up hardcore the last couple days at some my throat was raw on race day. I went out controlled, letting the field take off , I still ran sub-5 for the first mile but backed down eventually while they were 4:45s easily for a good portion of gen first half. I spent the early mile since settling into a comfortable cadence and then looked ahead to catch up to the chase pack of four about 200m ahead. Whiddled ut down slowly but around mile 6-7 I felt abdominal cramping comin on. It wasn't severe just a half mile past 7. I slowed way way down and a 15k I felt like my day wasn't over before it had a chance to begin. I worked to keep it underneath 6:00 pace. At mile 10 I seriously considered dropping out. But then someone from the open field passerby me. I felt like I couldn't let this guy beat me for whatever reason so I followed him as he was running 5:30's. At mile 12 I had almost come out of the cramping and no way needed to find a set of balls to work with over the last 3.5 miles. Rizzo had been struggling for a while, even with my shitty miles I could see him the whole time. At the half marathon mark (70:05) I finally caught up to him and pressed past him with the rando that had towed me along the past few miles. I finally broke the two of them before the 14 mile but it was only a very small victory in a poor race. I finished strong, and the rally had at least gotten me back to the early pace which was fairly comfortable. I am going to need to fingure out this cramping issue if grandmas is going to go well. Used to be I'd worry about pooping in races, now it's debilitating cramps. 4:59/5:11/5:17/5:10/5:15/5:15/5:07/5:16/5:31/5:50/5:36/5:29/5:20/5:14/5:13
