Decatur Shoreline 15k, 7th place. Top American. i wasnt completely sure how this race would go; it wasnt that i was nervous or worried that i wouldnt run well, ive just had a up and down last couple weeks. took it out with the leaders but after a mile and a half i let them go and focused on running within myself. ended up running with Jake Kildoo from Notre Dame and a British guy named Sherman. we stayed about 50m back from the main group for a while but i could tell that these two were willing to work together which was a huge bonus. before the race people kept telling me that the only hilly part of the course was for 4 miles after the 5k mark. this whole damn course was just rolling hills. they werent big enough to go anaerobic but enough to slow you down. in our threesome i was the weaker hill runner so i would get dropped but once we crest the top of the hill i would open up my stride and catch back up. i dont think i ever went to the well during this run which was reassuring considering my splits. i was breathing hard but not out of control. its nice to have such a positive race experience after not really doing well over the summer in the road races i was in.
