8x800 @2:20-24 w/400 jog. My hip started feeling better yesterday after the run but I still iced it and took some ibuprofen to improve my chances of a good session this morning. We are finally starting to see the classic Central Florida weather we've been training for. This morning was in the low 70s and very humid. I could feel the heat envelop me during the warm up and there wasn't a lot of protection. We ran circuits of Baldwin, which offered a flat, albeit windy bike path around a lake, about 2.5 miles long. Doing strides felt awful as a quick watch check showed 5:10/mile, that worried me since I was about to try to run half a minute faster per mile. We took off hard and while I didn't feel like I was way over my edge it felt like we were pressing. 2:19.5. We weren't in any rush during the float and while it was solid it wasn't aggressive. We found a better rhythm on the next two, coming through in a pack of 5 (Will, Parker, Jarrod, Isaac and me), in 2:23.2 and 2:21.4. I had set my watch to .5 mile on, .25 mile off so the splits are all that half mile, I don't know if the GPS can be that accurate for a short rep like this but I like to think the splits were a second or so slower than I would've run on the track. 2:24.0, 2:25.6. We were a bit slow on #5 but unlike most workouts in Boulder, I found myself pushing the pace from the front later into a workout to try to keep us on. The group dwindled after #6 and it was just Jarrod, Parker, and me. 2:23.1, 2:24.3, 2:24.8. I felt strong and the pace got hard at the end but it felt good to get rolling a little quicker. The hip held up just fine and there was no tightness afterwards so I might double later today. This was the turnaround I needed.
