Notes

With all the rain in the region the last couple days, mostly to the northwest of us, the Arkansas river was swollen to the point that Tulsa shut down the section of trail behind River Spirit. The Aduddell Riverside 5 mile was changed from a point to point with a very favorable wind, into an out and back. I was planning on ripping a time trial when it was out and back so when it changed I deferred to taking a normal long run and finishing up with the race for a fast ending. I was rolling early and even took Turkey Mt in stride. Once I came off that climb still cruising strong, I knew I could really roll the race even without any competition. I had about 10 min until the race started so when the gun went off I was feeling very better. I separated instantly and with the wind at my back went 4:59, 5:00. Did a 180-degree turn and the thick humidity turned into a 16 mph headwind so it was just a trade-off of misery. Naturally, the pace dropped off from there but still managed 5:08, 5:12, 5:08 to win by a couple of minutes. Very happy with how it went, both pieces, especially after missing the long run last weekend and having a lackluster week in general.
