Thunderstorms this morning were brutal! Practice at Zink was canceled and I was about to hop on the treadmill to crank out the 24 miles when Breaux texted me that the guys were running from campus. I decided to take my chance with the storm and if it got too bad Johnny gave me the green light to split the mileage up. Took the path that would essentially run all the way to Bartlesville and then turned to head back to campus down Lewis. the storm got really bad about 6 miles in. the lightning became so frequent and close that we stood under a convenience store awning to see if we could wait it out. Preisner and I got chilled so took off again with Peter and left everyone under the awning. The lightning and cracks of thunder lit enough of a fire under our asses that we were never really jogging. Got back to campus around 11 and I decided I'd still go for the surges (1-2-3-4-6-4-3-2-3 on 8' interval) despite the weather. my compromise was that I'd run around the New U the whole time and if the storm got worse I'd only be 100m from my car. 13.5 miles of the same roughly 800m loop was about as fun as it sounds, but I felt like a gawd danged animal out there. maintained around 5:20 (give or take 5 sec) on the surges, though the last couple surges were challenging, so I was feeling good about that on top of the volume.
