6x1000m w/lap jog (~270m) + 6x400w/2' walk (100m). Kaylin and I got back from Chicago around 10 pm last night and I woke up slowly. For a while I was considering pushing the workout to tomorrow to get better recovery and with how busy today's schedule is. The windchill carried a 1 degree temp that I was not about to mess around with for a quality workout. I forgot how much easier it was to run when I'm just in shorts and a t-shirt. I did one stride and then hopped right into the 1k's feeling like I was opening up enough. 2:56.1 for the first rep and I wasn't checking splits so I was surprised to see the watch. Pulled back since the recovery was short and followed with 2:58.1. Then I was back to it again in 2:56.1. I was slowly jogging the recovery even though I had caught my breath after about 100m, I didn't want to foolishly push my luck. 2:56.3 and 2:57.2 for 4 and 5. I was cruising at the pace, only so often pushing through a turn to maintain my momentum but overall I was rolling. Finished the K's with a 2:57.0. took my jog then walked 2' to the 400m start. 65.0, 64.6, 65.7 for the first half. I was still in the groove of the workout but I noticed I had slipped up during the 400's occasionally and would return to a floating stride instead of trying to put down a powerful stride for a short rep. 64.6, 65.1 and 68.3 to finish. Very happy to get some positive momentum back before the XC race this weekend. Feeling the faster turnover should help my body not panic at what is sure to be a quick and unrelenting pace.
