2 sets of 6x2’ on-1’ jog w/4’ set jog. Very flat this morning. Had to wake up at 4:30 Am to get this thing done before driving to Alabama. I had no spring on the warm up and had the looming feeling that this relatively simple fartlek would be a grinder. Went to the New U because it was the most familiar well-lit place I could find on the dark, chilly, wet and windy morning. I tried to take the pressure off by not concerning myself with the pace but when I ran 5:20 pace for the first pick up, I knew I was in a little trouble. I could blame the weather or the fact I was wearing trainers when I would usually wear flats, but I think I have a ways to go to reach a high level of fitness. The first set paces went: 5:21, 5:15, 5:06, 5:04, 5:00, 5:01. Took my slow set jog but honestly it wasn’t much slower than the regular rest which I typically try to float around 6:00 pace, instead was closer to 7:00. I tried to press at times on the second set but legs got heavy and the best I could do was maintain. 5:03, 5:01, 5:07, 5:02, 5:05, 5:05. This early morning stuff sucks but I’m not in the business of skipping or cutting workouts so I got it done and tried to make the best of it. I may be a little hard on myself but I feel behind where I think I should be.
