Notes

Just awful this morning. We got back from the Arkansas meet at 12:30 and I was in bed at 1 AM, things got pushed back because of lightning. I woke up feeling like I had chugged Nyquil before bed, I was groggy and fuzzy-headed. I met Landes for the initial 50 min portion before starting surges, 4x6'/3'/90" w/half rest. On paper, it didn't seem too terrible but with the way Iw as feeling and the seemingly daunting hour+ fartlek I was psyching myself out before it even started. Bombed down Turkey on the first 6' and my legs were feeling terribly battered. I didn't have high expectations, but normally a long run like this wouldn't have been any slower than 5:20 pace. I had a lot of negative self-talk during the first set. 5:24/(5:20)/(5:35). On the second set I was cursing johnny for putting this death march on my calendar, and I was looking for every excuse not to do the second half of the surges. 5:26/(5:25)/(5:15). My calves and Achilles were stupid tight and my lower legs in generally felt lifeless like I was running in a tiny bit of sand the whole time, but miraculously I was finding the pace wasn't slipping, but actually improving slightly in the third set. 5:26/(5:19)/(5:11). I wanted to just be done and things were mercifully wrapping up. 5:14/(5:15)/(5:18). I wasnt harboring the same animosity when I was done compared to what I felt at halfway, but this was still a really tough 20 miler.
