5k at MP w/4' rest+ 4x800 w/90"+ 4' rest+ Riverside 5000. Legs were feeling better than yesterday but still not perfect. started off the 5k a little slowly and pushed through the second half of the first mile. Ran controlled through the middle portion and closed it off well without extending. 16:05.8 for the opening 5k. 4' was plenty of time to feel good and I was isolated from the race environment when I started the 800's up by the casino. strode out on the first one and felt very fluid. 2:19.4.Glided through #2 in 2:17.2. without pressing ran #3 in 2:19.5. for #4 I was on the race course and would have hit a big crowd so I had to hairpin about halfway in and still ran 2:18.2. had to jog a bit to the start line and had 2' of standing before the gun. Frezer Legasse took it out hard and I wasn't even going to try to chase him. Having said that, my goal for the Riverside 5000 was just to be competitive and race the best I could on fatigued legs. Ran in the chase pack the whole time and eventually, I was in a position where I could really make the others hurt before settling back in. I knew it couldn't be too tactical and leave it to a kick so I would surge when I felt the pace lag and made the other 3 guys in the pack respond. With 600-800 to go two of them went by me and I worked hard to keep them close. we crested a very small incline with about 400 to go and I realized I had a shot at 2nd but I needed to drive it from there. if I bombed int he home straight at least I would still finish in the money, but if I held on I would get $250 for second. I ran very scared the last 100m in anticipation of getting dipped at the line. Ended up finishing strong to secure 2nd putting an end to a fantastic morning of work.
