Notes

16th place, 1:06:28. Couldn’t have asked for a better day weather wise. No rain, 5-6 mph tailwind and about 55 degrees. When I warmed up, legs felt cruddy and I tried to keep a confident mindset but body didn’t seem willing. Gun went off and the top group separated quickly. I stuck a few meters back of the chase as we went through the mile under 5. I settled into a nice rhythm of 5:05-07 or there about. Had to surge every now and then to keep the competive battery charged and it was actually working! A couple boulder track club guys along with two other randos made up our little pack. There were no crazy moves or anything until around 9 when I opened up my stride down a slight decline. I strung out the pack and by the time I got to 10 I was alone with the sounds of one guy’s footsteps behind me. The game plan called for consistent running until the last 5k and I was doing just that. It came time to accelerate and I fought the thought that I wouldn’t have the strength in my legs. I went through 10 slower than swamp rabbit over a year ago but I was immensely stronger now in that moment. I pressed and pressed and the pace came without killing me. Very proud to run my last 2 miles in 9:56 and finish strong! New PR to end the spring!
