The Classic Taper Workout: 2x 2 mile w/4'+ Mile w/3'+ 800. Absolutely stunning morning to run, 48 degrees, sunny and hardly a breath of wind. I might have timed this thing just right because even though I felt less than stellar yesterday, I was on this morning. Opened up in 10:15.3 (5:09.4/5:05.9). I was a little quick at the beginning and had to pull it back, then let it open up again towards the end. The 4' rest was perfect. 10:12.5 (5:05.6/5:06.9) for the second 2 mile and I was in an even, easier rhythm the whole way. Not once did I feel like I was pressing. The workout seemed essentially over by the time I got to the mile. I was running close to half pace for the mile and it only felt marginally harder than the 2 mile efforts; 4:52.5. I felt like I could have run 2:00 for the 800 if I were on a track and spiked. I ran it slightly harder than the mile, if anything to feel a faster cadence and remind myself the power that is already inside my legs. cruised through the winding portion of the loop to a 2:13.4. I am ready.
