15th, 14:52.75. This evening s performance was not indicative of where I am at fitness wise but was totally eye-opening being back into a race environment. Warmed up and did a couple strides with my spikes, but a few minutes before the race I switched to flats. logic being that i didnt want to risk anything tonight that would take away from the Half in Austin, TX next weekend. If there was one thing I lacked in this 5k, it was fire. I had almost no desire to compete. It was more akin to a crowded time trial. Early on I felt like I was maintain a rhythm that would carry through the entire race but that also put me way in the back of the 28 person field. I got to the 3k in 8:4x-ish and wanted to pick it up from there but the previous couple laps were pushing my speed endurance limit which was really sad. I got complacent and hoped it would pass and I could finish hard but with 4 laps to go I was struck by the feeling that I didnt care what happened, and I wasnt willing to dig any further than I was. Very disappointed with this evening, probably would have gotten more out of a workout, but maybe it was good to go out and get my ass whooped and run a slow race to light a fire under my ass and remind the body that racing is wholly a painful experience when done correctly and no amount of fitness can protect you from that.
