MGC Long Run 15k, 2nd ($315), 47:30. Ran a very smart race today. It was freezing and pretty windy. They held us on the starting line so so long I could feel my muscles tightening up. When they finally started the damn thing I was on the bad side of a taffy pull of what was to be the top 4 (Banks, Freundenthal, Morely). It strung out quick, supposedly Banks was going to try to run low 45's so I knew he'd be pulling away. May have given Adam and Brett a little too much, leading up tot he 3 mile I was still a solid 20-30 sec back of them, but I was running perfectly within myself. We dropped down a mile long straight to cross the bridge and I opened up my stride a little. We muscled back up a steep incline on the other side. Brett was getting dropped by Adam and I could see him clutching at his side so I knew it would just be a matter of time before I put him away. Passed Brett around the 5 mile mark and went to work on Adam. Using landmarks I figured Adam was about 23-25 sec ahead as we went by the 6 mile mark. I slowly but surely chipped away at the gap, not even really worrying about the distance remaining or my overall pace. I really just wanted to beat his ass. There was a very steep hill before the 8 mile mark and I put my head down and tried my best to power up the thing. When I got to the top I was just a few strides behind Adam who appeared to be waibering a bit. I made a strong move up the following hill which I was unaware of being about a mile lon. Of consistent climbing (~200 ft) but about half way up the hill I couldn't hear Adams foot steps anymore. I got to the top and did my best to reassert the pace in order to avoid getting reeled in and bitch kicked. Held on and finished strong for a runner up spot. Very happy with today's effort because I felt strong essentially the whole time, my turnover just wasn't the best. Coming of Run Downtown this was a very positive step forwward
