Wow. Holy crap was not expecting this. Race plan was to go out in 5:25s for first 2-3 miles and see where I was at. Well, from the gun I decided to just go with the leaders and see how long I could hang. Only two other guys emerged as serious contenders. We went out at 5 flat pace for at least the first half mile. Dropped back a little after that and the first guy pulled away at that pace. First mile 5:14 and still feeling really good. Me and this other guy were right next to each other, going back and forth. But around 2.5 miles in I sensed he was hurting a little and decided to put the hurt on then and there. I must have buried him mentally after that cause he never came back. 3rd mile a little slower I guess but right there. I just kept pushing and as I got closer to the end I was motivated to push harder and harder. Really strong last 2-2.5 miles.

Honestly have no idea how I pulled off this pace. Average pace of 5:16, which equates to a 26:11 8k. That is more or less on par with cross country last year and with a lot less training. I am going off of 40ish miles a week for the past month or two with zero workouts and no weeks over 50mpw since frigging February. Needless to say I am stoked and can't wait to see what I can do with more mileage and workouts. It probably helps that I have a ton less stress and I am doing stretching and little strength stuff almost every day. Just gonna keep the train rolling, run some more races, and see what happens. I wanna get up to 60-70 miles a week and just stay there for a while. I will most likely develop a legit training plan for myself soon. Can't wait to see what the next few months bring.
