Notes

Lansing Invite. Course was really soaked from rain and had a lot of puddles on the trails, so it did not run fast (we still had 4 guys PR though which was very impressive). For not racing for 3 weeks this was a solid race. I was 5th man for us today as we got 2nd to GVSU's B-squad. I placed 24th overall. The course had a really bad bottle neck, so we had to get out hard. We got in a good position and got in a pack with Nate, Schaap, Auckerman, and me. We stayed together until about 4k then Nate got moving, Schaap latched onto him for a little bit, Auckerman dropped, and I just stayed where we were. The last 2 miles were tough though. I just stayed focus on Schaap's back because I heard Hyde saying we were in the team race and I knew I was 5th man. Ended up finishing 5 seconds behind him. I could tell I was slowing down, but I was always in this constant flux of passing people and getting passed, so I had no idea where I was relative to the field. Today I felt like I lacked just a little bit of race sharpness. I was feeling strong through 3 miles, but while my workouts have been good the last 3 weeks, I have not done anything that had me running near threshold. It was just a lot of short, hard intervals (except the 1 mile in the workout on Tuesday). I got the feeling of running that far again in my bones, so I should be good. Mile splits were sketchy at best, I heard anywhere between 5:08-5:12 for the first mile, 10:30 at 2 miles and 15:50 at 3 miles (the 2 and 3 miles seem wrong because I was not running that fast for 3 miles, Schaap thought the 2 and 3 mile marks were short). That says I didn't close that fast, so this was just kind of a grind. Mark, Mason, and Landon all ran phenomenal today! It was a good team day as our entire top 7 either ran phenomenal or solid, no one had a bad race, that's why we got 2nd!
