Calvin/Hope dual meet at home. None of the times or places from this meet really matter. It was 50 and sunny, but 20-25 mph consistent winds. Needless to say, not a day for fast times. This 1500 got out fine. We were expecting Mark and Jordan to take it, but it ended up being Mark and Auckerman. Our first lap was a 67 which was not too bad considering the conditions. Problem was Mark was not having a good day and started falling off 500 meters in which left Auckerman up there and we knew he was not in shape to hold the pace. After another 100 meters I said screw it and took the lead. I think I came through the half in 2:17 and surprisingly no one came with me until 500 meters left. I got toasted pretty hard the last 200 meters. I was pissed I had to take the lead that early as I was looking to take it from 500 to go. If I kept letting Auckerman lead we would have passed the half in 2:20 though. I just want a race where I don't feel the need to take it from far out because it's these kind of races that keep me from running at meets like Depauw this weekend.. Like I said that wind sucked and no one ran particularly fast (Oram won the race in 4:11). Aerobically I recovered pretty fast after this, just had to clear the lactic acid out. I just can't wait to run that 10k in two weeks. I want to see what I can run in an event I am actually training for!
