Notes

2nd place in the Boyne City 10k. I am only putting this in as a race so it shows up on my PRs. In reality, it was more of a tempo. This is my first 10k ever, so I really had no idea how to pace it. My 2 goals were, average 5:28-5:30 pace and hit the camp standard. I did both of those goals perfect. My first mile was 5:42, which is where I wanted to be. At this point, I was running with two other guys and one guy was about 20 seconds in front of us. We picked it up a little the 2nd mile, but they had no markers until the 5k, so I had no idea of my splits there. I dropped the guys running with me at 2.5 miles (where I finally started feeling good, up till that point I felt like crap, I was tight everywhere). The problem was the guy had gotten about a minute ahead of me and there was just no way I could real him in. I ran my next 5k in 16:51 with a 5:10 last mile, but the guy that won ran 33:23. He was just a pacing machine, he hit every mile between 5:20-5:25. I could have hit back to back 16:50 something 5ks to run 33:40 something, but that was about as fast I think I could have gone today. The guy that won lives in Grand Rapids and knows Diemer and ran for Hope College back in the day. He was probably 45-50 years old, so a pretty solid masters runner to go 33:23 on a road 10k. First 10k ever and I accopmlished both of my goals. Could't have asked for a better first road race+I don't see myself being a 10k runner in the future, but it was nice to get some experience at the distance before college+it has been a long week with orientation and first ever 92nd street on Tuesday, my quads and IT are still feeling that a little bit even today.

Edit: The guy ran 2:31 at the Chicago Marathon and was the top masters finisher...
