State 2012. Well this was not the story book ending i was hoping for. Plain and simple, I ran bad. I had an off day. These happen and it just sucked that it happened today. I can only remember 3 distinct moments in this race. I remember coming through the first mile in 4:55-4:56. I remember losing my shoe right before 1.5 mile mark (which we never found again) and Janota yelling at me with about 1000 meters left. Each one told a different story about a different time in the race. I wish i could have run better yesterday, i just really dont know what happened. We got 7th, but we had a lot of fun in the process. I have been on the state trip all 4 years and by far and away this was the most fun out of any of them. When i finished though, i knew that i had pushed every ounce of whatever energy i had out of my body because i felt terrible and wanting to puke for 15 mins after. So i did leave whatever crappy energy i had out there. Congrats to Bushie, Horn, Brendan, and Weiss for running great races!!

I realized later at Alexanders that my class and I's legacy is not defined by what places and times we got at the state meet. I had people come up to me tellling me that i inspire them and i had a kid cry on shoulder. It was incredible to see how much we changed people's lives. That to me means more than a trophy, breaking 15, or being all-state.

It is odd to think that my 4 years of nvxc is over like that. It went by so fast. I remember back in 2009 watching those guys host a state championship trophy and now it's done. Time flies.

I also did some thinking last night too. I am not 100% if i am running NXN and i am deciding that today, but no matter if i am or not running i will be at the practices. There is something i would like to try this week. I was thinking that i dont think my body responds well to a hard taper. I begin to feel out of shape and not in touch with the fitness i had earlier in the season. Looking over the season if i hit about 45 miles up to race day and do core at least once every day, i run great on the race. Over or way below that i dont seem to run very well. For this week of NXN i would like to bump the milage up and do core once a day and be at around 45 miles by saturday, so essentially next week would be a 50 mile week then a down week. I know it sounds wierd, but i want to try it. I feel my body would respond better to it and i would run better at NXN if i did that. In my mind i already kinda laid out a plan , im just not sure if anyone else wants to do that. In summary, what i really mean is i dont want us to have run 20 miles the whole week before NXN regionals, i say bump it up to like 35-40 miles. I checked that in 2010 we ran 25 miles before NXN, last year was 30.

I agree with you bumping up the mileage a bit
