Notes

1500 at GVSU today. A 10-15 mph headwind on the backstretch, so a little windy, but not too bad. Was in heat 4 of 7, seeded 13th. Got out really well in about 5th place through a 66 first 400. We then came through 800 in 2:13-2:14 (the lap was a 67.xx). Then with 400 to go Mitch Clinton of Albion made a strong move. I had the choice of either going with him and risk tying up, or sit with the pack I was with and probably out kick most of them. Decided it was worth the risk to go with Clinton. We came through 1200 in 3:19 (so a 65.xx). I started tying up with about 250 to go though and got passed by everyone in the pack I was running with. I was looking for a little faster on the time, but I'am not disappointed in the way I raced. I knew I was on pace to run equivalent PR and just went for it. It didn't pay off, but I had no regrets after the race. Diemer and I both thought had I stayed with the pack I was running with I would have run around a 4:10 (which would have been a little PR on a day with some decent wind) and probably placed 3rd-4th in my heat instead of 8. I had fun with the race and didn't focus much on time, just on competition. The best part was my legs felt a lot fresher today and a lot of people, including Diemer, said I looked much stronger throughout the race then I had the last 2 weeks. I am content with today, will take the lessons, and prepare to run a big 5k PR at Hillsdale on Thursday!
