Original Ann Arbor Turkey Trot 5k. Course was a big loop around Hudson Mills metropark. About 37 degrees and light winds. Course was fairly flat but a little bit rolling here and there. Only part I didn't like was the last 300 meters were on grass and gravel. The gravel was especially tough with the Vaporflys. With how chilly it was, I decided to take it out a bit conservative as to not throw myself into shock. A high school kid went with me through the first k. Hit the first mile in 5:03 and just put in a surge there to break free. From there it was just the pace biker and I. The guy biking knew the course so was telling me where uphills/downhills were and tangents. It was helpful. Hit the 2nd mile in 5:03 then 3rd mile in 5:08 with a 35 last 200. Last mile may have been a bit long (was on my GPS watch) but overall the course was accurate. Talked with the guy who got 2nd and we both agreed it wasn't a fast day. Thought I was in about 15:30 shape coming in and I don't think I'm that far off of it. Probably my final hard race of the fall. Just too busy to get in a good number of races this fall. This race did give me the craziest overall prize I have ever won. I won a whole 12 pound turkey! There was a 10k right afterwards that I probably could have done (guy who got 2nd in 5k won the 10k) but we had to get back to Kaylie's parents. Also Kaylie went 29:41 which was her first time under 30 minutes! Impressive given how cool it was and the weird finish.
