Notes
3k at Hillsdale. An ok race. I was replacing Jacob as I had been scratched because of my achilles a few days ago. The heat I was in had seed times ranging from 8:40-9:06. The start was super hectic because I knew I didn't want to go out with the top guys of the heat, but they went out hard. Matt, Alex, and I went to the back, so we didn't get caught up in their pace, but the pace was hot from the gun. The leaders came through 800 in 2:12 (we were 2:18-2:20). We came through 1k in 2:58, which was harder then I wanted to go (I was hoping for somewhere around 3:01). The leaders went through 1500 in 4:15, which says Matt and I probably went through 1500 in 4:28-4:29 (FYI the leaders went out faster then the championship heat did). From that point this got tough. Came through 1600 in 4:50, but it was a struggling 4:50 at this point. People started hitting walls and coming back. I don't know what we were at 2k, but I was dead withe 600 to go. I tried to keep good form to the finish, but my last 600 was not so good. Matt ended up running 9:11 which was solid (the winner of our heat was 8:44). I ran in flats for my achilles and after only 1 true running workout back this was not terrible. I felt wearing spikes would have helped me the last 600 in getting a better grip on the track, but it was better to be safe then try to get a few extra seconds. I did also hold on better here then at GVSU when I went out in about the same pace for the first k, so I am getting stronger even having to take a few days off from running last week. The track was super nice though and I wish I could have worn spikes on it, but it's whatever. Big meet 5k next week at GVSU, I know 15:45-15:50 is a very realistic time range for me to hit based off of my 3ks. I'll be back in spikes. have one more workout back under me, and be ready to roll!
