5k at GVSU open today. Small 5k heat. We let Ethan and Philipose go with another dude. Bolenes and I just settled into our rhythm. Some Davenport kid blew by us early, but his seed time was no where near ours, so we just let him go and we caught him with about 3 laps to go. Anyways we were just clicking off 76s. We were 3:07 at the K, 5:03 at the mile. Mark yelled we were on 15:55 pace at half way. Bolenes and I would just trade off every 2 laps which kept the pace up. With 3 to go Bolenes made a surge and the actual racing was on. I just held on and tried to stay relaxed. We hit 4800 in 15:18 and I tried passing Bolenes around the last turn. He held me off and ran 15:49.9 which sucked cause I wanted us both to be under 15:50. While it was not a super fast time again, it was still a PR which for this early is solid. The race was fun and Bolenes and I followed our strategy to perfection. I'm enjoying racing again and this is a good starting point.
