Notes

I'll keep this short, but I just wanted to get something out it writing.

I ran a super flat 10k yesterday, a race I've been wanting to do for a few years now to see what time I could achieve.

I didn't have any specific time goal because I ran a pretty hard half about a month ago, and it took me longer than I expected/wanted to recover so actually haven't done any hard or long training since then. I basically wanted to re-assess my fitness level. I wasn't even sure about doing this race because a few days ago I thought I may have had an injury coming on, but the massage therapist determine it was just something that needed to be stretched out (which I haven't really being doing).

Well, I thought I would have come down off my peak by now, but I guess I've still got it because I came through in 40:51 - a PR!! I started out pretty fast, then slowed down, and then I was quite happy with my pacing from the 4k mark onwards as I was hitting each km marker at almost exactly 4:05. Things started to hurt at around the 8k mark, and I considered starting my cooldown, but I just decided to struggle through the pain, as I was having a great race so far and it was the perfect day for a PR. Even though I didn't have any specific goal going in, once I realized I was going to have a good race I thought I might be able to make it in under 41:00.

Looks like I just sneaked in. I remember seeing the big clock with a few hundred meters to go and the pain subsided when I realized that I was going to do it, but at the same time I was a little worried I was just going to miss it by a few seconds.

I thought the course was great and overall, the race was well organized. I'll be looking forward to doing this one again hopefully next year.
