Notes

I ran in Canada's largest 10k this morning, the Vancouver Sun Run, and it got even larger this year: 59,197 people registered for the race, I'm not sure how many people actually showed up.

I also set a new PR! My last 10k and PR was this same race last year, which I ran in 46:45. My goal was to go sub-44:00. I know that's a lofty goal, but based on recent race results and training, I thought it would be do-able depending on my starting position. I just missed my goal time, but I am still happy to report a new PR. Unoffical time: 44:18. I knew there would be a fast downhill start, but I was determined to set my own pace and not let the excitement of the crowd pull me faster than I should. I was able to control my pace, but then there was a very crowed area right after that, and the first few kms were spent side-stepping to get position. I was planning to run at about 4:30/km for the first half, or a little faster if I was feeling better, then kick it up a notch after the only uphill, as after that there is a downhill then a very fast and flat stretch (where the course is also less congested) to the finish. I think I was doing about 4:15-4:20/km for the last half. I didn't bother timing my splits since I missed the first marker. Based on my result of this morning, I am confident that I can go sub-44:00 this year in a less congested race. I am very pleased with my result though as it was my first time to break the 45:00 minute barrier.

It was a cold 2 degree C start so I was in long sleeves, but I was way to hot for that by the mid-way point. I'll have to remember that in the future. Save the long sleeves for the sub-zero temps!

Thanks for reading, I hope this wasn't too long and boring. I'll update my sig once the results are official.
