1600m. Clocked myself at 5:16.28 which is probably pretty accurate (official time 5:16.2). Conditions weren't the greatest to try to PR today, but I didn't really think about it to avoid negative thoughts. Started at the very edge of the waterfall and had to weave my way to the front. Took it out fast, around 34/35 through the 200. Stayed in the lead through about 300m until Rick took over. First lap was 1:14 which is solid. Stayed tucked begind Rick for laps 3/4 (82, 84). The middle laps were a little slower than I would like them to be, but not too bad. Tried to pass Rick with 500 to go, but couldn't so I waited until 350/300 (not sure?). Closed faster than I ever have (76) to hold off Keenan. Was able to push harder in the last 200 when I usually mentally die a little, which was a good step. Ended up winning the heat, but I would have rather ran in the 2nd heat to try to get myself dragged to a faster time. With better weather I think I definitely could have ran a few seconds faster. Good way to end the season and a superb first Grant Baganz Distance Classic.
