Notes

4 x 1 mile (1 min.). Dew point 69, but it felt tolerable because there was a breeze and no direct sun. I was going to attempt up to 8 x 1 mile, and it was feeling easy. But my stomach forced me to stop. It wasn't because of the weather or the intensity of the run, I think. It was because I ran in the afternoon after eating the wrong thing (spicy food) for lunch. When I left I was somewhat hungry and drank a fair amount of water (before leaving) because of the humidity. That water sloshed around and caused trouble starting on the third interval. The fourth one was quite painful, and it shows how easy this pace is for me now that I still managed 6:23. It was then clear that I was done with tempo pace, and I ended up walking almost the entire way home. Afterwards I was glad, again, to be forced to stop early. I got some tempo intervals in, felt great, and saw that I'm in great shape. The reason I stopped had nothing to do with fitness. There's no need to push things beyond that, at least not often. This was my Q2 for the week, which I did first because I expected hurricane Irene to dump heavy rain on us today amid super high humidity. It ended up being an ok day. But no matter: I'll just do Q1 later in the week. That'll give me 10 or 11 tempo miles for the week, which is plenty.
