Ok, I'm going to stop using the Garmin running dynamics pod. I was watching the GCT balance data as I ran, and it was really bad through the second mile. So I tried moving the pod to my left about a millimeter. Suddenly the date improved dramatically and was good for the rest of the run. The data is garbage! It depends entirely on the very precise location of the pod on your waistband - on your back side where you can't see it. Back to just trying to use good form by feel.
