Notes

8 Weeks to Grandma's

This run absolutely mauled me. Ran the first 12 with Maria, stopped for a gu and water and finished with a Whalen.

Adding a few more thoughts and notes:

- The first half of the run was at about 8:05 pace, but that was pushing it a bit too much for Maria. That said, she's not great at recognizing that we're pushing too hard.

- Stopped briefly at mile 8 to retie my shoe and for Maria to catch her breath.

- My feet were pretty well thrashed at the end of the run, but they feel reasonably good today. Pinky toe on the right foot was going a touch numb at the beginning, but it was fine after a bit of relacing. I do think that the shoe/sock combo won't work for the marathon, but the shoes are good for the marathon.

- Mile 13 and 14 were very slow due to the hills, but after that, I sort of settled into about 7:50 pace. That's way quicker than my planned marathon pace for Grandma's, but probably closer to where I could run Grandma's.

- The last eight had a weird dynamic. The first four, my legs were fatigued, but everything else felt okay. Then I started getting hungry at mile 17 and my legs perked back up. In hindsight, I should have carried water on the first chunk, had a gu at mile 6, then another at mile 12 when Maria stopped.

- This was a good time-on-feet run. I would like to get at least one or two more of these in before Grandma's, just to get more acclimated with running for 2 and a half hours.
