Notes
Smith Invitational
Goal Time: Sub 29.
First race since March most likely, so we'll see how it goes.
EDIT (9/2/13)
IT'S A 5K?!
Well that changes everything! New goal:
Break 17. Finish top 8 on team.
Missed both goals. In retrospect, the time was way too ambitious. Wayyy too ambitious. I finished 12th, but we had 8 people finish within 20 seconds of each other. I was at the back on that pack, but I should be able to move up in that pack in two weeks.
Thoughts:
1) My moods are very unstable after races sometimes.
2) Friday was not the best preparation for today. The problem is no power in the apartment. And then I basically was working from 10 to 7 or 8 with very little break. Can I handle that? Usually, but I haven't had to for a while. So that didn't help I think.
3) For a first race in a long while, I'll take a sub 17:40. It's a really tough course and I'm still not quite back to where I was at the end of last year.
4) Things to do: I need to start ramping up my mileage and resume lifting again. Both have slacked off a bit, but it's time to kick that back up.
5) Hills are a weakness for me right now. I don't like that very much.
6) I need to figure how to start sleeping better, but I think that will come with less chaos in my life. Of course, that may not happen for a while.
7) The conga line is pretty awesome. I want to start leading that in the future. If we can start pushing that up toward 27:00-27:30 in races (and it's real close right now), I'm excited.
Overall, I'm not disappointed in this race. It's not great, I really wanted to do better. But that's the breaks. First cross country 5K in 6+ years, so I'll take it.
