Notes

Got. There. Sub 16 with some bonus time to boot. I'm super pumped about this race. I wish I had managed to score, because I was sitting around 6th with a mile to go, but the guy I was cruising with managed to open up the gap with about 1200 to go and I didn't have it to respond. Of course, I did season best a 3K en route. And very possibly PR in the 3K en route (9:23).

Thoughts:

1) The weather was very uneven. We got there in the rain, then it got sunny and warmed up a bit. Then it got windy enough that we took down the tents. During the warmup, I was seriously considering racing in gloves and a hat. At the start line, it was crisp, but not too bad. A little breezy.

2) I got out hard this race. It didn't help to be starting in lane 6 though. I dropped into lane one at about 200 after running a 34-5 (I think) and slotted into third.

3) There was one MIT guy right in front of me for the first mile. At the first mile split, I heard 5:05 and then made a move. He came along pretty well, which I was expecting.

3a) Rob was just out of reach for me from about 6 laps. I probably could have bridged up to him, but that would have been everything to get there.

4) Splits were... something. I didn't have 400 splits, but I managed to shout to Caitlin for the mile split. I heard 5:05 from her, but after the race Brendan said I was sub 5. I feel like the truth is between the two, because I heard 10:02 for the 2 mile split. So I either ran 5:05, 4:57 (which seems... not like me), 5:44 for 1800 [5:05.7] or something like 5, 5:02, 5:05.7, 38. I'd believe the second one a little more.

5) Huge props to everyone cheering. It really helps power through.

6) Anacoustic rooms are super cool.

7) After the race was a bit of a shitshow. We had finished a fairly long cooldown, got back, diddled around for a bit. Then we were told they just started discus yet. At almost 5. Then they hadn't started shotput either. So we didn't leave RPI until about 7:30 (when we were scheduled to get back to WPI...) The Athletic Ball was fun though.

Overall, this was a great race for me.

Engineers Cup (WPI/RPI)

I'd guess RPI at this point, but...

Hopefully 10K at this meet

If 10K, Goal time: 33:20
