Notes
Woo!
I'll put a full set of thoughts here eventually, but this was a good race. The course was a little adjusted from 2019/mapped - there's a small out and back on Glacier Valley to get a little more distance.
Full Race Thoughts:
1) We had a very slow morning, which worked. Only a mile for warmup, which was a little light. Not awful, but I think I could have used another mile or so.
2) Pre-race fueling was a bowl of cereal and two cups of coffee, which works. It's a little sugary, but not awful (again).
3) This race is always smaller than I think it deserves to be. Under 60 people is tiny, especially for one of the only races in Fitchburg.
4) The course is rough - I think it's challenging and pushing up to bad. The hills hit in really awkward spaces for racing (first 1/2 mile, then mile 1.5, finally 2->2.6), so it's hard to pace evenly.
5) Not a lot of passing today. The winner went off the front just past Eagle School and I might have been able to get third with a spectacular kick, but second was island-ed pretty quick and fifth was about 15 seconds back.
6) I paced this run very nicely, considering the hills.
Fastest 5K since college! Faster than my entire indoor track season of freshman year (?!?!) Hmm, interesting.
