The alarm goes off at 4:30am. You crawl out of a warm bed and your feet hit a cold tile floor. You throw on a sweatshirt and try to make coffee with your eyes still closed. Get dressed, and while making up the bed, you notice that the covers are still warm and you want to crawl back under them. Out the door, and the icy wind takes your breath away. You shiver in the car for the first 5 minutes until it warms up. Arrive at the pool in the darkness after trying to stay awake while driving, and the next thing you know is that you are squinting in a room filled with bright harsh florescent lights. The water is always chilly when you first get in. For the next 1.5 hours you can barely catch your breath, and the coach hangs over the edge of the pool yelling at you to pick up the pace the entire time. Outside the large windows, you gradually see the sky brightening during the workout. It's all you can do to pull yourself out of the pool when you are done. After a heavenly hot shower, it's off to work and you sit slumped at your desk for the next few hours, totally shot, drinking hot tea, trying to wake up. And you pay to do this and do it willingly. What's up with that?
